Mecury Mechanical indicator?

I don't have any experience with them. With the drive all they way down the indicator reads about 8. I took the spring tube off (sand and grease inside) and it reads 2 with the cable all the way out. Isn't this backwards? With the cable all the way out, wouldn't that be like the drive being all the way up and should read a high number? Thought with the drive down (spring compressed) it should read like 0 or 1. The K-planes are up and read 9. Thanks, Doug

Sounds like it is backwards to me. My trim reads 0 when the drive is down. I crank it up to 6 when running the boat in any water less than 2 feet.

Agreed - Backwards.....

The guy who owned the boat had a cheat sheet ie (40 mph drive 0 tabs 8). So it wasn't allways reversed. Is there a bellcrank or something that changes the direction? Thanks, Doug

The only way to change it is to install the cable to come in to the indicator from the other end or to get new card with the numbers going the opposite direction.

Humm, I'm stumped, The cables all come in from the top, Maybe the drive came in from the bottom and somebody changed it? But why? Thanks, Doug
