 MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN BOATING ACCIDENT SATURDAY by MARTY SHEVELOVE A Redlands, Calif., man was listed in serious condition Monday in a Las Vegas hospital as the result of injuries he received in a boat accident Saturday afternoon on Lake Havasu. Scott Gray, 21, suffered multiple and deep lacerations to his pelvic area, groin and legs after he apparently fell overboard off a 2001 Laser boat and was run over by the craft and its propeller, a Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said. The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. Gray was one of nine people aboard the craft as it moved through the south basin of Lake Havasu heading toward Thompson Bay. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said Gray was kneeling at the front of the boat when the woman piloting the craft throttled back to avoid rough water and heavier boat traffic. He was pitched overboard and then run over. Gray was first transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center and then evacuated by air to University Medical Center, where he was being treated in the trauma intensive care unit. UMC spokesman Rick Plummer said Monday that Gray’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening. The accident is still under investigation. It was the third injury accident on Lake Havasu that the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has dealt with during the 2002 spring break season. Spring break peaks this week. Students from as many as 25 schools in California are expected to descend on Lake Havasu City. |
