Default Motor upgrade or motor swap?

Well as all of you have said, I am already tired of the 53/54mph top speed baja.

What would be the best option to go with to get some more speed reliably? Looking to do something this winter.

Build this motor. (Stock 330hp 454)
Find a 502 mag and build that, or
Find a Carb'd HP500 motor and just run it!???

BTW, what kinda speed would I see out of a single HP500 on this boat with the right prop? And will the Carb'd HP500 work with a standard Bravo one drive?

And if you guys say HP500, where do I find one?

The internals and heads on a stock 330 wont cut it if you want to build one up, HP 500 will probably get you about 60 to 63mph. It all comes down to how much money you want to spend.

A friend had a 272 with 454 Mag / Whipple (575 HP?) and he MIGHT of been doing 75 on a good day.

My .02....
Sell the boat and look for a FASTER hull.

My 94 26' Infinity ran 69.3 with standard 454 Mag and Bravo.. but My "X" was raised. I would look for a faster boat.
THere are a lot out there but then you have to get rid of the Baja. Tough call. Look at the math os HP, hull,, props size and slip.. It would take a bunch to get that above 70.

It will depend on how much you want to spend. You could find an HP500 and run 60-64mph... and yes the standard Bravo will work. But if you get a Gen VI (and maybe Gen V), you'll need an electric fuel pump, as the block has no provision for a fuel pump.

The guys are right that the hull is not a fast one, but if you put enough power to it, it just might scare ya!! Definitely weigh the cost of selling now while it runs good, and stepping up to a Active Thunder, Sonic or ??

Keep in mind to find a complete HP500, your looking at around 8-10 grand, then you'll need the fuel system, oil cooler upgrade, and possibly exhaust upgrade.

If you don't want to sell the boat and funds are tight, get a Procharger setup for your current deal and make from 500hp to 560hp. I would guess approx cost for this would be about 7k all complete.

What's your budget for a power build? Merc stuff (even used) is overpriced in my opinion.

Well I appreciate all the input. As of right now I do not want to sell it, the reason being, I have only owned it since early spring, and still owe money on it, so there will be at least 1 or 2 more seasons on it, so I can pay it off early, and put whatever I sell the boat for down on the next one. If I sell now, I wont have anything to put down on a bigger more expensive boat, and I dont really want to do that. I can live with the boat for a couple more years.

As to what Im looking to spend. I would say 5-6K for this winter. If I could get into a 502mag over the winter and get a few more MPH, I would think 415hp would give me a few over the 330 correct? Then maybe next winter I could just put a whipple on it. When I am ready to sell the boat, I will pull the 502 and reinstall the 454 and off she goes....

Good idea?

You can pick up and older 525 sc witch has a good block and heads rebuild it and put an intercooler on it and a smaller pully get around 700 hp build up the drive and don't be hard on it and you should se mid 70's with some dial in time.
