As to what Im looking to spend. I would say 5-6K for this winter. If I could get into a 502mag over the winter and get a few more MPH, I would think 415hp would give me a few over the 330 correct? Then maybe next winter I could just put a whipple on it. When I am ready to sell the boat, I will pull the 502 and reinstall the 454 and off she goes....
Good idea?
Good idea?
Now, here is what IS possible on that budget... if you build your own motor and do all the labor, find parts that are usable and gather them over the next few months.... than maybe the 5k will work.
I am not trying to be a buzz kill, but trying to be more realistic. It ALWAYS takes more than you think it will.... ALWAYS.

I stand corrected. Maybe hit this guy up and see what you can work out. Then swap the manifolds and throw a carb on it and go?

I never heard of a 272 run that slow go to the baja section and post, a 272 is a 25ft hull with swimplateform, that boat should run 65 with a 365 mag, 67 with a 502 and 72 to 74 witha 500hp merc, theres a guy running 96 with a 900 plus motor or maybe 1000hp in the baja section. and to the beaker theres twice the room in a 272 than a 27 beaker and my ol has more room a friend has a 27 fountain he has been trying to sell for 2 or 3 yrs no bits. I know the 2'' shorties have not worked on your hull the other guy tried it and a box. I think your boat has a vee keel no pad like the 24ol or 25 ol which like the box and shortie. I was getting mid 80s with a shortie and 670hp. see you over at the baja section art

and for motors theres a ton of good motors for 8gs or under in the classifields, it will take 6 grand and a 502 to make 600 to 650hp. your 330hp is a dog it can be built to 500hp but thats it. oh and a black merc is just a over priced crate motor there not hand built like the blue motor so its not balanced and blue printed to run higher rpms I spent about a extra 12 grand on my 502 after buying it for 11,000 from merc, I sold from the heads up, had the bottom balanced with new parts, drive train, custom carb, heads p&ped so on it adds up quick my new motor is a custom DEAN GELLNER 572 BLOWER. THATS a piece of ART.

I have posted in the baja section a few times, and really dont get much response. But I will try again.
Speedo says 55/56, handheld garmin gps says 52/53/54 on good days, no fuel, by myself, and this is almost trimmed out just to see what I could get out of it @ 4600rpm, mildly trimmed about 51, no trim about 47.... Never have seen anywhere near 60mph....
