I remember reading about those when they were first built.

PJDiesel 07-14-2009 01:34 PM

Have seen one, but only on here.

Not a big fan.

NoQuarter 07-14-2009 01:37 PM

I don't get it. Besides the obvious, why would you want to get in and out from here? Is this for when the boat is on the trailer and the freeboard is too high to climb over?

I thought this was a photoshop joke when I first saw it.

Caincando1 07-14-2009 01:39 PM

I think it was so you can get in and out at the beach. I think, but don't know that for sure.

wigginout 07-14-2009 01:41 PM

It was for when you beach it, made it easier to get out, then getting in the water. Why would U want to get in the water?

VtSteve 07-14-2009 01:42 PM

I can just imagine the mold growing in the cabin from frequent visits from swimmers

Not that much freeboard for it to make much sense. Now if it were a cooler access, that would be a different story.

Interesting review of the 400
http://www.powerboatmag.com/index2.p...o_pdf=1&id=440

plus this
"The test boat came equipped with a beach access door, something you don’t typically see on a big lake boat from
an East Coast builder. Out West, boaters like to pull up to the beach or a sandbar at the local lake and spend the day
relaxing. The door, while it adds $8,000 to the price, makes getting in and out of the boat a breeze."

glassdave 07-14-2009 01:51 PM

saw that last year in Havasu. Thought it was kinda cool but definitely inland lake use only.

8K

Shore Thing 07-14-2009 02:03 PM

wow, that is a terrible idea on a boat. why not just integrate a hidden ladder onto the bow like deck boats sometimes have if they want to make it easier for getting on and off at the beach?

The possibilities for trouble down the line with a door right there seems limitless.

glassdave 07-14-2009 02:22 PM

tell ya what i looked it over pretty good and it was pretty stout. Still like i said pretty much just for inland lakes.

My biggest reservation is loosing laminate continuity and the inherent rigidity of the boat (think of it as a tube). it was beefed up pretty well though.

Your kids can hop in and out without dragging beach sand on their feet across the deck. I've seen it at the shows.....it is well built.

I think it would be pretty cool. Easy to acces everything in the cabin. My .02

Could you imagine running down the bay or ocean and looking over at your wife or co-pilot and saying" Did you shut the door"... No I thought you did" Oh.. Chit.. You left the door open!! as all the bilge pumps are running..

Not getting a good visual on that plus.. You gotta be really small to get in and out..
I know my 260lb Azz isn't getting out of that trap door!!!

McGary911 07-14-2009 08:32 PM

Real easy to throw out the anchor.

I remember when the original owner was selling it. He bought another boat while waiting for this one to get finished. He swore the door was not an issue in big seas.

I think it took a lot of effort for him to sell it to the current owner. I think he wanted over 200K for it when it was new.
Looks like it has a few cool features, like the teak floors.

phragle 07-14-2009 09:26 PM

it does keep drunkin bimbos from playing slice and dice on the props though...

I actually think if u have water coming in on that part of the hull,,,,,,something is wrong anyways.

Jassman 07-15-2009 06:00 AM

I cant tell you how well the construction is..but the finish was done very nicely..at least the 2 Hallets I checked out. The materials used were not up to my standards but the price was fair..and everything was straight and executed properly. How they ride..no clue..the door..not for me..the less penetrations through the hull..the better.

Run_em_hard 07-15-2009 06:07 AM

I have seen it in person a few times. IMO it would be great to have on the west coats inland lakes. It is actually fairly large door and constructed great. Someone mentioned mold growing in the cabin...not on the west coast.

I get that, but would you rather have sand on your deck or in your cabin?

In the cabin! You can vacuum sand from a cabin and you can't vacuum scratches from your deck paint or gel coat. :D

Shore Thing 07-15-2009 01:20 PM

A woman would tell you that she'd never get near your deck again if you got sand in her cabin. :D :D

In2Deep 07-15-2009 02:02 PM

Definitely for inland lakes -- and best suited for WESTERN boating. Is a great convenience feature when beaching for a rest or a day.

Also, and I may be wrong -- but I'm pretty certain that the GIBSON MTI has one of these doors.
