RIK - thank you and I went there but, most are 6.2L engine with DB4 Standayne fuel pumps, those are old engines, very old. I see the one newer one, have you ever put your drives behind them?

BAD reputation...
The "GARMIN"-boat had the Hammerhead-diesels during the Round Britain 2008-race. Donīt think they made ONE stage without major problems.

I'm suprised you are not talking to Inovations and A. Mastrey...
If your working on a Navy project, Inovations has been doing the Spec war boat engines for over 27+ years...and have been working on the Yanmar 420's and a number of diesel projects and have a lot of R&D in them. They have tweeked the 420's for a number of applications. And the Navy also use the 470 Caterpillar on there Ribs that are running 55+mph. With all the work they have been doing in the Spec war applications, they will have the most experiance for what you are looking to do....the old 40' V-hull spec boats weight in at just under 15k with everything minus souls on board and can withstand air drops...there are a number of companys today that have a 36 to 42' RIB boats build for just that mission with diesel power....Willard in Ca. have a number of these boats, you should be looking at there hulls along with Zodiacs C7. You can also look into the hull design on the Mark V....its a 80+ footer with Diesels....and has been very succesufull....and runs 60+.
Also you should go to the goverments yearly spec war shows...I don't know if I still have the info on a 40' boat that was there last year but its a great spec war boat with a diesel application and got a lot of attention. There is also a MACC Conf. every year at Little Creek were companys come out to show there R&D for new applications. These companys have years of testing for the stress these boats will be under, so if your starting from scratch....you might want to look into what these companys have found out what works and what dose not work...also you will get some great info from the guys that have been running the old 40's at Dam Neck. Inovations has been working on going to diesels in the 40's for a while.....
With them bringing back the River Rats ....they will be looking for newer and better 25' to 30' boats for the military also.

Just some input...good luck on the project....

I was at the SPECBOAT Unit when they had to pull EVERY engine in every rib, to install new turbos. What a mess. The design of the engine makes it impossible to replace a turbo( and they will need replacing) with the engine in the hull. That was a big project.

I feel your pain. The're a biotch even in the boats with big engine compartments. Seems like the designers want me to actually work hard for my money :evilb:

Hey Darrel...I'm not saying the way the SBU boats were done right....but the 470's and other Diesel aplications, they do work. The SBU boats and the 40' Spec war boats could have been built to make it a lot easier to work on. The engines in the 40's were not the most reliable thing out there...but as you know...they did not have any of these boats with the mind set of "but can we work on them with area's being accessible" Plus...we know how the engine manufactures make thinks so hard to get to...

We took the Dragon out and did a Demo with one of the 40's 5 years ago to show them what it can do. we ran in 5 to 6 footers....an left right when the throttles dropped...we were doing over 23 mph faster then they could see...with over 200 hp less then they had...
Craig, Doug W. and I talked about what it would take to build it to there standards. but it is a huge investment...not to many companys are going to take that type of risk and investment..but a boat can be built with everything that is being brought up on this thread.

A. Mastery at Mastery Marine in St Pete, Fl would be able to tell you if that is in the works and anything else about Yanmar.
