For all of us BRAVO BUTTS

Just got confirmation from a buddy at Mercury Racing that they are finally going to relaese the NXT Drive seperatly for all of us that do not want to buy a complete package.
I can tell you from experience a couple summers ago when I was testing the drive in one of Mercurys test boats. Mercury had a 36 BAJA w/ a single 700 and an NXT drive. Part of the routine was to try to break it. In trying to break it we would hole shot it from a dead stop. We tested it for months under those kind of conditions - It Never Broke....
Price starting at 20k each.....:ernaehrung004:

+1

Does it use a specific bellhousing and inner transom plate or the same as a bravo?
.

You will have to get a whole Gimble assembly per drive and sorry guys, never said it was going to be cheap!! LT

Dont know about the cut out, but you will have to run the NXT transmission, no shifting done in the drive.

I'm sure it will need a different cut out. I've seen the 700 boats at the A.T. factory and they do have a different cut out. I would love to fit a couple of these babies on the backside of my 37.

For what you would be getting into cost-wise, it would seem some Areneson's would be the more cost effective upgrade to a Bravo.

and 3 time's the failure's....spend the coin..it's worth peace of mind.

Jass your correct. In a application like yours now doubt the NXT's are the way to go. But in a modest boat with modest up grades save the money and stay with Bravo's.

Before Mercury went to multiple stages of Bravo's I had a 97 Thunder with Twin 800's and stock Bravo's on Boxes with 3 trouble free season.

GO FIGURE

That's because you never took it over 60.....:hitfan:

Your right Pat, because the 32 foot boat weighed in at 12,000 lbs, without me in it.

Little Tommy 07-19-2009 02:20 PM

for us with the heavy resin buckets, over 12,000+, it is all about piece of mind. LT

Just curious, why a 36 with a single?

plumbers crack 07-19-2009 04:33 PM

Not to argue but, after building a few boats,I would rather sell what I had and buy something with the right hardware. That conversion is gonna be costly no matter what.I would think konrads would be cheaper?

The single drive has a huge load when trying to get on plane with such a large boat ,so the time to get on plane would take longer ,and that was probably their purpose to load the drive as much as possible to see what will happen.

I agree:D

$20K for the leg, + $10K for the transom assembly + a transmission and $$$$$$$$$$$$

The transom cutout is the same as it is for a #6 Speedmaster for those asking about the bolt pattern.

I agree...

Here's my take on it..Boating is to be fun..thats why we buy these machines..when going out if it becomes a hassle once or twice a year with a break down, or always having it in the back of your mind especially on a PR..thats when it becomes un-fun..

H20 Toie 07-20-2009 10:55 PM

So if you have good bravo's , you sell them and put that toward the new nxt's
Sure it will cost but i'm sure some boats go through drives every year, it shouldn't take long to make up the difference.
I bet some of the 42' cigs go through more than one drive every season
