HRS on a 1000hp??

How many hrs can you get out of a 1000hp motor??? Not running them at WOT all the time. Best case!! Do you know anyone who has 200hrs on them. Thanks Scott.

We had over 200 on a set with 10 hour oil changes, and 30 hour Valve train checks ... best set of motors we had to date wish i still had em ...

Lots of WOT even sprayed NOS and when we took them apart this past winter bearings and pistons looked like brand new ..... We did have the Ice Inj System water & meth hooked up ... those motors were bullet proof :ernaehrung004:

Who built them?

WildWarrior 07-20-2009 10:19 PM

We have over 240 hrs on our Starboard 1300+hp 565ci consistently running 4800 to 6600 rpms and hope to see 300 before re build.A broken blower belt took out our Port side oil pump belt at 6500rpms at 170hrs.

I feel that at the 900hp + level Proper rigging, diligent pre run inspection prior to every run , maintaining proper water pressure and temps, oil temps & pressure gauge watching have as much to do with engine longevity as do the qualified builder, matched internals, machine work and clearances.

All it takes is minutes for a clogged sea strainer to net low enough water pressure to add 30 or more degrees to our water temps.
And at 8 or 9 lbs of boost hopefully we just take out a head gasket on our hottest hole and not something worse.

If you don,t like to wrench or you cant afford a full time mechanic to consistently check and monitor everything, re guard less of the engine quality very few guys ever see 100hrs before re builds running big power.

I have several approaching 200 hrs. I do have one pair that has 242 hrs and still going strong. They have only had oil changes and one set of spark plugs at 170 hrs. They ran the same plugs that I dynoed them with for the first 170 hrs. I only changed them because I felt guilty. Maintenance is as important as the engine build itself. If it is not maintained, I don't care who builds it, it will not live.

I also have many 1000-1200 HP SC engines that usually go 250 hours plus before rebuild. ..........and about 60% of the time they are WOT.

We have approx 325 hrs on ours..... I change the oil every 20 hrs and keep an eye on the leak downs... Pfaff 1000's

Glad to see you guys are getting 200+ hrs with 1000 hps, that's great news!!!

I have over 220 hrs on one of my 830's and the other one had to be redone 2 times due to silly problems like a defective timing chain and a bad cylinder head... It seems it's the little things that always bite you in the azz!!! :(

This one engine with 220+ hrs has been very good to me and like I said, some silly problems on the other one that could have been avoided. I'm going to refresh the 220 hr engine this winter so they're both fresh.
