The answer is it depends. It depends what you are looking for in a boat and what type of water you will be running in. Since the Baja is much newer than the Scarab, I would have to say the Baja. Scarab's are good boats, but I think the fact that they are no longer produced will hurt resale. Also, I don't think you can compare the 33 Baja to a 38 Scarab. The 36 Outlaw would be a better comparision. Basically, you just have to drive all of them and see which is the best fit for you.

33 avs very good ride. I think power boat mag had it going 85mph carb hp 500s 1999 or so. Close the door use the head. Thats just like the old deal i need a cabin on my boat! So you can stay on it 2 times in 5 years. Faster boat than people think. 8500lb i think. good rough water ride. With inovation 600s Per power magazine. I think it ran low 90s. A friend of mine has one with hp 500 efi's almost 400 hours fun boat.

My opinion for what its worth.
38 Scarab, BIG HEAVY, will be slow, unless you dump HP into it, like 600 per motor
31 Scarab, Heavy for its size, older style, old looking swimplatform.
33 Scarab AVS, OK you got me thats a good all around boat, always heard good info on them.
33 BAJA, GREAT BOAT, Newer, you cannot go wrong on this one, most 33's came well loaded and look nice.
So I would go with the 33 Baja first and a 33 AVS second, but thats me.

Seriously....The 33 Outlaw and the 38 Scarab are great boats. I would however be more fair to compare the 36 Outlaw to the 38 Scarab and really, just forget the 31 Scarab. It's in a different catagory than the other two (3) boats.
I"ve had lots of seat time in both a Baja and a Scarab and I own a Cigarette so my opinion is not bias. I think all you'll find on here are people that have Bajas saying buy a baja and people with Scarabs saying buy Scarab. And the true fact is that is because in all reality these boats are EXTREMELY similar. Nearly the same in regards to build quality, ride, bottom, etc.
So basically, when it comes down to it. Buy the boat that is the best bang for the buck. If it's a much newer (smaller) baja for a little more but with less time on it than that might be the way to go. If it's an older 38 Scarab with a little more time on it, in good shape for a great price, that may be the way to go.
Bottom line; Between the 33 Outlaw, the 36 Outlaw and the 38 Scarab, you wont be disappointed after you do your homework on what boat fits your needs best and you pull the trigger on that boat.

The 31 Scarab is a much smaller boat than any of the others. Toss up between the 33 Baja and the 33 AVS. a 38 Scarab without AVS is not very fast without big power. The 33's are at least 10 mph faster.
