Buy 1997 Scarab 26 with 502???
Could you Pros out there tell me anything good or bad about this boat? How is the hull, speed, overall boat and is there a better choice? Looking for an easy to keep 26-29 single engined offshore boat. Found a nice 26 Scarab and need comments from you guys! Thanks!!!

It's a good boat. Rides good for the size of it. It can handle the rough descent if you don't get crazy. I personally owned a 29 single engine and thats is the way to go if you have the cash. Your still in a single engine but the ride is awesome compared to a 26. I had a 630hp whippled engine in mine and it smashed the rough stuff for the size. There isn't a huge price difference between a used 26 and a 29 either. So, good luck in your hunt!

My first boat was a 26 Scarab w/502 and had no real complaints. It did handle rough water decent for the size.As for the speed expect anywhere from low 60 to mid 50. Remember the general rule of thumb: If they tell you the boat goes 70 it runs 60. Always 10 less unless you have a gps in your hand.Any more questions pm me.

I love my 29 single. Scarab 26 is correct on the speeds...at least until you "play" with it a little:evilb:

I owned that model 3 yrs ago. It will go 65-67 with stock 502 and 3-blade prop. The boat was slightly faster than my buddies 272 Baja Boss with the same set up. There's not much to the cabin, and really the boat lacks any storage other than under the rear seat. One thing I always found awkward was the windshield. There's no step or easy way to get over it and it always seemed like you were pulling on the frame and climbing over the passenger seat to get to the bow. If your going to use it on the ocean or big lake conditions you probably won't be happy with it. It's narrow and relatively light, 4700lbs.
