I've always had more fun in smaller boats than bigger boats. The Edock spread- as impressive as the hardware is; Blee's Pop Gun would have been the most fun in my opinion.

Maybe it is because I've never been 150MPH in a big cat or in 20 foot seas before.

Hammertime made a comment once to waterboy one of the 1st times they were going to go out together that stuck with me that was some thing along the lines of "going 150MPH was pretty uneventful". WOW! We use to run a 22 Velocity w/800HP- every time we took it out it was eventful!

Maybe I need to hit the lotto or maybe I need to move to bigger water to test my theory.

One day I'm going to get a 30 Cig- fast enough to white knuckle me yet "cheap" enough to run that I can afford white knuckle running all the time.

I think "cool" tends to be something that is elegant in its simplicity. To me the more colors, patterns, and busy-ness you stick on a hull, the less you can appreciate the basic lines. On some boats that are inherently ugly (some Baja's, MTI's, etc) complicated patterns are helpful, but when you start with a classic like the Donzi....leave it alone.....

To me it's like looking at a guy with bare arms covered in tattoos, with a gaggle of gold chains around his neck, gold teeth and multiple earings in both ears.......... lotsa flash....no class.

I see two kinds of boaters and people....those who concern themselves with the shallow stuff like appearance and garish posturing and those who enjoy the experience, handling and performance. There are those who enjoy both I guess, but very few showoffs make good, sensible and accomplished boaters. This, of course, is just my humble, obsolete opinion, but life's too short and good weather days are too precious, to waste time on tarting up either your boat or yourself.

Let me guess... you drive a Ford Escort? No wait.. Honda Civic? And if a guy in a tricked out Mustang pulls up next to you, I bet you shake your head in disgust, huh?

Actually I drive an all black Ford diesel Excursion and a black Jeep Sahara. no stripes , no neon, no garish bolt on gimmicks, no show off junk.

You know nothing about me and it shows. Anyone who knows me understands that the cars you align me with are as insipid as your comments.

I have no problem with a guy in a tricked out Mustang...as long as he didn't spend as much on the paint job as he did on the car...or if he has silly little neon lights on the bottom. I think "pimping rides" is a display of hip hop inspired ignorance. On the other hand I love all forms of real motor racing.

There are classic cars in existance like the old Shelby Mustangs and Cobras that only a fool would attempt to "update". The Donzi deserves the same respect. I understand that a younger generation, schooled to believe that graffitti is an "art form" and not a pathetic trailer trash plea for attention, might want to paint the Statue of Liberty in flip flop colors....but that doesn't mean that I have to like it.... nor does my opinion have to be shared by you.....but I'll be damned if I'll compliment something that i sincerely believe looks ridiculous.

My own .02 cents (and the advice probably aint worth that much)

#1- Get some education in personal tax, small business/corporate tax , maybe something in marketing and business plan development. Doesnt have to be a college level degree, but take some clases. Those are the four areas of business you will need to focus on when you arent turning a wrench, and if you dont focus on them, you can be the best boat builder, mechanic, or widget salesman...you will eventually hurt your business in the long run. Have several friends who started their own businesses...all were great at what they did. The ones that succeeded paid attention to these areas, the ones that didnt wound up failin. And usually it was because they wound up with big bills from the tax man they couldnt pay or because a competitor who didnt do it as well as them was just was able to sell themselves better.

#2 Take that internship- if it isnt paid, think of it as free education. My buddy owns a small deli, does well for himself. But he worked in a deli for 10 years before he opened his own place. And he tells me all the time "Best way to avoid a mistake is watching someone else make it". Just soak up what you can and learn what not to do, sometimes as important as knowing what to do

#3- Capitalize yourself properly, many small business failures occur because they just needed some extra money to make it over the hump early on


Overall....Follow the dream, just be smart about it. Plan, do your homework and make sure you have contigencies for the 'rainy days'
