80mph boat with AC/gen 30+ feet???

I have a buddy looking to upgrade from a 25' Baja to something bigger with twins or triples that runs 80 and has AC/Gen. What brands would you recommend. His price range is in the ~80k or so

I don't think a whole lot in that price range but well see what others say.

Why doesn't that have a gas gen?

VegasHallett 08-11-2009 08:19 AM

much safer with diesel.. plus, the gen set will run longer on a small amount of diesel. nice set-up

not. Marine gas gens have much more stringent safety systems and protections on them. Diesel gens are made to run in boats with diesel motors and diesel fuel tanks.

So why would they do that? Seems like it would be a pain to have to fill it with diesel.
Still a nice boat.

Still a nice boat.

My assumption would be they needed more kW.

That does seem like a good deal on that AT.

Sydwayz 08-11-2009 11:12 AM

That Mase diesel genset is awesome. It was chosen by the original owner, and we have installed several of them. (I've known that boat since new; know the original owner and current owner very well--it's the boat that turned me on to ATs years ago.) It SIPS diesel, one tank of diesel lasted the first owner more than 2 seasons! The diesel genset produces no carbon monoxide so it is much safer than a gasoline setup. Albeit we have installed several gasoline gensets lately.

Plus they were trying to get that boat as fast as they could on 500's. they did a ton of setup work on that boat and that was the lightest gen. they could find when they did it. Thats what Mark the first owner told me when we were rafted up together one day.

diesel gen sets are way better. Gas generators are a maintnance pain in the azz.

PatriYacht 08-11-2009 03:46 PM

Diesels run with an excess of air in the fuel mixture so they produce co2 instead of co like a gasoline engine. Almost impossible to get co poisoning with a diesel generator.
