1987 Citation 21' Lazer
 

Anyone know the history on these boats? All I know is they were only built for 3 years and was supposed to be a performance designed hull. The reason I'm asking is a good friend of mine has one that he bought new in '87 and is going to give it to me if I'll pull it out of his yard. He had the floor replaced about 5 years ago with a glass floor but it's been sitting since then with no cover. It has a 350 with an Alpha 1 drive but it hasn't run in 5+ years. I don't want to put money into a boat that is completely wothless when I'm done. All input is appreciated.

Dont know about that boat but I can only guess how bad the structure will be sitting 5 yrs UNcovered.

A friend of mine bought a brand new red one in 1987 with a 454/alpha. He beat the crap out of it for 5 years then burned it up for the insurance. Boat looked cool, but was'nt real great quality. He paid $17,000 brand new for it. The 350 was $15,000

I know two people that had them back in the day, they where pieces of sh!t. Very poor construction , bad gel coat , both of them sank partly due to exhaust out let design . I would not put a dime in to one of those boats.. my 2cents.

No problems with the 1988 that I have. In fact, the hull is still in great shape and so is the original interior, motor and outdrive. Main use is Lake Erie and that lake can get rough. I use the boat every chance I get and I am the original owner.
I still get many compliments on the boat. The quality is not as good as a Formula or a Wellcraft but neither was the price!

The dealer cuts all the holes for the gimbal housing and the exhaust ports. Sounds like they did a poor job!!

Bottom line, if you take care of the boat, it will last!!
