1999 47' Outerlimits

I met a guy today with a 47' OL, 1999 model, for sale. It has TRIPLE Keith Eickert 572's pushing over 1000HP each and #6 drives. Fuel injected. He claims the boat will run 148mph? Is that number realistic? Also, what is a realistic price in today's market for such a boat. Each motor has ~20 hours since rebuild.

mmareno 08-29-2009 08:48 PM

Man...................I would have to see that to believe it. I have a buddy that has a 37OL with 1100's in it and the best he seen is 118mph .

I know more can chime in but I would have to see that to believe it!!

Scaredy Cat 08-29-2009 08:53 PM

no possible

A friend of mine had a 47 and i've had a couple of 42 outerlimit that where newer and they want come close to that speed with 1000 hp, to do that the motor would need to be pushing close to 1500 hp each and that is questionable with a 99 hull.

mmareno 08-29-2009 09:03 PM

I kinda thought that too. must of have been a big fish story.. It takes ALOT to get over the 100mph mark with a V. It is do able Some people think 3 engines makes the boat 1/3 quicker.. I think in most applications the 3rd motor doesn't gain a whole lot maybe 10mph in a V... But you aren't pushing a 99' OL to 148.......:bsflag: maybe turbines

We built the 51 with tripple 1200's and that boat went an honest 138. I think your friends boat is fast, but not quite as fast as he is claiming.

m3seth 08-29-2009 11:42 PM

Well he isn't a friend, just some guy I ran into on our lake that I have never seen before. He says he will let the boat go for $150k now, no questions. He just wants to get out from underneath it so he claims. That's why im trying to figure out if that's a hell of a deal or about what it's worth.

m3seth 08-30-2009 12:09 AM

ah found it... trusty OSO I figured would have the scoop.

How can you still want that boat after you read the other thread?? You would be wise to hire a surveyor. If he gives the OK take it to Outerlimits and let them test it for CG issues as the surveyor will not do that.

bmanafort 08-30-2009 09:14 AM

That is a serious rig for that money.

I just read in the power boats mag about the OL 48' Cat with 1300 Teague EFI's running 161mph then turn a few pages and read the Nor-tech 50' with 4-1100's running 166mph

5mph with two more engines... That sounded cost effective.:eek::eek:

3 engines is not the best set up and I wonder why they do that???

simple... say 3 700's are 2100 hp... 2-1075s are 2150hp.. the 700's will live a lot longer between rebuilds and hopefully be less troublesome. But when something does break, you running a 1400 twin as opposed to idling forever to get back.

possum 08-30-2009 01:25 PM

He lives right down the lake from me...told me yesterday, it had a burnt piston in one of the engines...

TCBoss302 08-31-2009 08:39 AM

Seth,

Did any of you guys go out and run with him? He told one of the sales guys at Island Cove that it ran 150+. That's a big a$$ boat for our lake. Who owns it?

LapseofReason 08-31-2009 09:02 AM

That boat might be able to do 125 if you take everything out of it and put a pro at the sticks. 115 is more like it with average load. My buddy went out on that boat after he redid it I wont say restored because it wasn't. They had 2 guys and 3 skinny stripers 1/2 gas and a cooler,My buddy said at 5600 rpm the speedo said 108.

LOL... everyone likes to exaggerate.. From his own mouth the boat gets really squirrely and hard to handle over 100mph so I'd say it needs to go back to outerlimits to get that worked out.

How funny is that ?! The guys says that it runs 148 mph but that it gets squirrely at anything over 100 :lolhit: doh

Maybe he hides below the wheel over the hundred mark and looks up at the angle and thinks it says 148:eek::eek::eek:

We have a 37 OL on the chesapeake with big power. Never been on it but word around the block says 118mph and HOLD ON for dear life:eek::eek::eek::eek:

As the prop turns on this particular boat. I knew what boat this was going to be about before opening the thread.

In this case "Center of Gravity", the "Coast Guard" has nothing to do with how the boat drives

Sick Stinger 08-31-2009 07:12 PM
