Lake Martin doesn't smell like pee or poop. Although it might not smell like the ocean, but it smells like a regular lake, non-the-less.
That is my stomping grounds, and where I grew up going to the lake from the time I was born. As a matter of fact, it's so beautiful up there, we just bought a lake house right on the water in a nice peaceful shady slough next to where my grandparents had their lake house when I was growing up.
The lake is very beautiful, with lots of fun things to do...Marinas, hang out spots, fishing, boating (although since 2005 & the "Three Lakes Law" took effect, not too many big high performance boats running around...which kinda stinks b/c I love fast boats with loud exhaust.).
And to answer the first question, the lake has pretty good current, and pretty good chop in the middle of the lake and in the hot-spots where folks gather to drink a few cold ones and hang out. It's on average about 1' to 2' chop. If the weather takes a turn for the worst, it gets pretty nasty out there.
