Big thank you to Ocean LED (for great product), Powerboat Magazine (for being the conduit to make it happen) and especially Teague Custom Marine (for an awesome install job).
Look for the whole install process and pics in an upcoming issue of Powerboat Mag. |
I'd say now that the boat really is "Lit." Looks great Tank!!! :D

Tank, how much does this make the sale price go up? |
Those lights are really bright, considering it is dusk in the pics.

Eddie The A6's run just under 400.00 and the A3's run just under 200.00. Great quality at very reasonable rates. We only installed the two A12's at the transom. I don't think it'd be smart to put them on the sides or the bottom due to the fact it would screw with the performance. When I put the boat on the trailer last night after the photo shoot, it was dark and the lights are so powerful they actually light up the area under the cockpit too. They work really well.

We have Ocean LED lights, we love ours! Ocean LED & the guys (Lee & Zack) are great to work with!

Looks good Tank. I talked to a guy that has installed a number of these units and he said so far he loves them.
|
Way cool!!!!!
|
G-damn, you need a genny to run those monsters??? Awesome!
I'd love to do the same thing, just a little gunshy about putting "unnecessary" holes in my transom. Anybody have any thoughts... |

Yea, I was a bit hesitant with the whole drilling into the transom but really, holes for the drives, holes for the trim tabs, holes for the swim step, holes for the external steering, holes where the old pito tube was, holes for the zink things....etc etc etc. Figured three more very small holes that will be vigorously caulked isn't going to hurt. :drink: Plus, when we did the swim step, pulled the old one off, re-gel'd the transom holes and drilled for the new swim step it put me at a bit more ease with the whole thing. |

I assume they are different sizes with a varying number of LED's. You mention not putting them on the sides or bottom. How big are they? Would they hang down far enough on the bottom to make a difference? Thanks, Eddie |

Thanks for the answers Tank. A few more questions:

Thanks, Eddie I know the cruisers put them all the way around the boats but there's not as much pressure as on a performance boats. |
Thanks for the quick reply Tank. They are larger than I thought. I see that yours has 12 LED's. I assume that the why it's called an A12. The A6 and A3 must have the same corresponding number of lights. Very nice and thanks for the pics and replies. Can't wait to install some.

Eddie Kool-aid-man's Top Gun has the A6's on it and they look great (see pic). It's a whole lotta "wow factor" for low dollers and fairly simple install. Here's one of the many companies that distributes the Ocean LED line: http://www.yachtlights.com/item--Oce...ian--amphibian |
Looks great Tank! :sport009:

Damn I want those

Looks Great Tank!
I have a set of A6's (medium sized) and they are amazingly bright. I dont have any night shots yet, but they are bright enough to light up the whole camp sight at night when I parked the boat at the camp at Lake Nacimiento and they illuminated the whole slip and an area about 20 feet behind me in San Diego a few weeks ago. Not only are they bright, they run cool and as you said use little to no juice. I went all LED with over 20 tri colored interior lights and when I run the insides all 20 pull only about 1.5 Amps. Good stuff. Uncle Dave |

I got these on my boat.
http://www.bulletlines.com/Underwate...hts-p/1020.htm Install was super easy (took about an hour). They are pretty bright, (not as bright as the Ocean but bright enough) and I got a smokin deal ($200 for both). The Ocean LED's are nice but expensive, also check out Shadow-Casters, they are crazy bright too. http://www.shadow-caster.com/ |
If using the led underwater lights, is it illegal to run them at night when running down the lake? I would think it would be a plus, you would be more visible.

Not sure that blue underwater lights are going to be a whole lot more visible that the white running light, but more visibility is better than less. Green and red (reds a bad choice anyway) would obvioulsy be a no - no. Uncle Dave |
Those look cool Tank!!
|
Why???????????????
|
Not too long ago I did a 4 led lites on the transom of a 50" Nor Tech 50. The lites were a surface mount which made it very for installation. So there is no secret on installation. The single electrical boxes were installed on white starboard then mounted to the transon inside. The lead wires were pulled to the top of the transom then over to the starboard side of the boat and connected. Being in the south Fl waters, you do need to bond the lites which there is aa machine screw provided and second to keep the finish looking good for years to come, I suggest clear coating the brass housing to keep the looking nice since the boat does'nt live full time in the water. :coolcowboy:

Looking at doing 2 A6's on mine. What are the thoughts on mounting depth? I've heard at least 6" below the water line. Is 6 inches better than 10 inches? The shallower the better, the deeper the better?
Any thoughts on that? Thanks |
any video from the underwater cam?
|
I've seen the story in the lat Powerboat magazine !
nice looking accessory for sure! |
