Advice on Upgrade from Libby 221 to Bigger
I bought a 1990 Liberator 221, 454 in March.
It's a fine boat and I'm satisfied with the boat & still getting-up-to-speed boating wise, now retired at 60 YO. However, I'd like some more creature comfort, frig., real potty, shower, microwave, sink. Lay down sleeping that is good to go for 6 ft. guy & son that is six foot also. I'd like to stay out for one or two nights and not feel cramped up. I need room for two people or a couple more perhaps. When I add 4 over nite, that will change things, so sort of forget I mentioned 4 folks for now. I am not leaning toward a cabin cruiser at this time. I'd like to go fairly fast, about 50 to 60 +... same as 4 Winns. Budget is around 15 to 20K for older boat, allowing $10K for sale of 4 Winns 221. What Say Yee (what do you recommend) ? Avery |

in a sport boat is gonna be real tough to do reliably for 20k and selling anything right now is not an easy task. Most sport boats big enough for what you want and power for what you want in that price range are bare bones or old and needing work. Id say you have your work cut out for you. |
I have been looking around some. Looks like the 31 ft. Vista and some other older cruiser boats might get under the wire at 20K. I saw a Sea Ray (in PA) that was Cabin Cruiser that went for 15K was in 1988 but nice for it's age. The boats should drop more since the boating season is coming to a close in the norther area. I have a offer from a friend for my 4W 221 and might take it.
If it takes 25 K or a little more, I'd live with it.. all depends on the boat & deal. I have about 6 months to look and too old to get flustered.. just keeping my eyes open for a deal. Avery |
Look at late 80 or early 90 formulas

The only thing even close to what you want in the price range you want is the older 357 Formula that just got posted in the classifieds a few days ago.

Avery if you dont care about going 50-60mph then yes it is quite possible to find what you are looking for. Its the speed that drives the price up. :) |
