Brand new 300SX, 3 weeks after delivery.

Melted piston #5, veltilated the block with connecting rod #5.

Brand new LH merc racing, lab finish prop, after 15 hours use

Brand new RH merc racing prop, lab finished, after 16 hours use

Merc racing 300XS RH lower unit, and LH lower unit, 15 hours after prop failures

Another Merc racing 300XS LH lower unit, this one after 17 hours

Another Merc racing 300XS lower RH unit, this one lasted 21 hours

I would give up after that many, whats the problem?

I could not give up, it is on my brand new (now 2 years old) 30 Skater.

I was thinking maybe a batch of bad castings. Recently I was told of another 30 Skater that had to replace the lower unit due to seal failures and water in the case. He reportedly ran and hour and had the same cracks. I tried to contact him directly, no response.

Jeez. How are they holding up now?

To soon to tell. Since the last set of failures, I have been on and off the trailer 7 times. That about about 10 hours of idle, to and from the ramp, and 7 hours of running on them.

Wow that sucks. So much for outboard reliability.

Lost blade on right hand motor, went through cavitation plate then made a hole in the right hand tower housing, then ricocheted into cowl on left hand motor. Have 7 of these 2 blade props now, the prop picture is from 06'.(Had already installed spare gearcase by the time I took picture of the tower housing)

Ah! the utter destruction!

If you are going to break something go BIG . The motor we blew up last year there was enough babbitt in the valley I think you could read Clevite 77.

Merc Racing has been fixing all of my stuff, under warranty, until this past spring, when they began to indicate, that they would no longer honor the warranty. After putting me through much duress, MR came through and did honor the warranty; however, MR stated that this was the last time.

My warranty is good though April 2010, and since I feel, this action by MR is a breach of contract, I have be in contact with the State of Florida, Attorney Generals office.

guess who had a hard time adjusting valves.

I know its not the winner but it made a little noise.

Also, my first boat i hit a wing dam. Oops! It had 3 blades. Oh well, it was aluminum!

This was broke on my 105 last pass of the year.
Hinge pin broke,coupler spun some,starboard B Max ate it self up with just 104 hours,upper and lower gears:(.oh yea props turning in gave me 3 mph that day.
