I like the idea of installing a charger/inverter in these instances. The shorepower can/will run your AC and some recepticals. When you're away from the dock/shorepower you can run the inverter with the engine on to feed the AC and cool down the cabin for a little bit. With the engine off you probably can't run the AC and if you do the batteries wont last long but you can use the recepticals.

When installing the breaker panel, be sure to get one that's made for shore power. Warning, they can be expensive $175-200+.
The breaker on the shore power panel cuts both +/- legs when you flip the switch and also has a light that comes on so you know if you are hooked up with reversed polarity.

We have a system that runs on 12 volts, but doesn't use a power inverter to run thanks to 12 volt compressors, they come in 4k btu and 6k btu. Then add your shore power charger! http://www.12voltac.com
