454 to 502

Got curious today and looked up the calculation for cubic inches. So I noticed that you increase either the bore or the stroke to get to 502. Given internals would be magnum quality, what are the cons for doing it this way. TON of used 454 blocks out there, 502 are a ***** to find.

Any downs sides to doing this way?

thanx

The 454 and 502 blocks are not the same. The 454 block has a 4.250" bore and the 502 has a 4.468" bore. They use the same cranks (4"). You can not bore the 454 block to the same size of the 502. You can only bore it about .070 (4.320). You can put a 4.25" crank in the 454 block and make a 496, but you would do better to put that crank in a 502 block. With that you could make a 540, 547, 555, or 565. Hope this helps, Eddie.
