Did hear some rumors of this but never thought they were true. Espeacially being that John C himself lives in Keywest. Could make sense as AL Copeland is always been a big supprter and always throws a killer party. I believe if I am not mistaken that AL is from that area. Would like to here more about this.

DPT, You have mail...;)

Oh man - NOLA would be cool! I could drive to that one. The SBI website doesn't say where the Worlds are going to be. Hope it's true.

Al Copeland is from N.O. It would sure be a showing of backing down if Carbonell did leave. But after last years fiasco, probably good for the sport if one sanctioning body were to leave since the dates are so close. I sure hope they can work it out for the RACERS! Whichever way is best, it needs to be best for the racers first!

Is it just me or are there others that feel that the scheduling aspect of Offshore Racing lacks organization? I am just a fan. I want to see races with as many boats as possible. I do not care whether it is APBA, SBI, OPA, etc. I realize there are a lot of details and planning that go into these events. The schedules are posted in the beginning of the year. It is now April and already events are cancelled, rescheduled, or moved. Most people have to plan ahead to participate in these events at any level. Where would other "professional" sports be is the same thing happened?

i heard the NO rumor last year as well. thought it would never happen. i'd love to see it. corpus is the only race nearby and NO would definitely be sweet. that would make 2 races a year for us on the west side of the gulf. you florida people are spoiled. ;)

the food is better in NO anyway. i'm becoming more of an SBI supporter all the time.

Dredgeking 04-09-2002 08:44 AM

i have to agree with dave on the planning and scheduling of the events. the corpus race has been smacked around and it has put me out of the vent this year just because i didn't know what was going on. there is no commication between event organizers and racers. i need more time than most to prep for a race. i'm a newbie.

SBI fax a race schedul to its membership a few weeks ago & the worlds are listed in Key West on that

Risk Taker 04-09-2002 11:09 AM

Key West

I called superboat today and they said that the reason it is tentative is because they are not sure if the naval base will be available due to the war. They will know within a couple of weeks, so keep checking the web site.

Come on New Orleans !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

Dredgeking 04-09-2002 02:04 PM

i called SBI just now and they said the the city of key west was supposed to send a registered letter yesterday to notify SBI of whatever the Navy has decided. Key West has until the 19th of this month to respond to SBI. It did sound as thoug New Orleans would be a strong possibility.

Jana 04-09-2002 05:11 PM

Sweet! Nothing against Key West, but New Orleans is just so much closer to home. Got my fingers crossed...

Hauling Trash 04-09-2002 05:37 PM

deepvcatss12 04-09-2002 06:10 PM

S.B.I. has been moving up the west coast of Fla. with the new race sites of Ft. Myers and Sarasota this season. Maybe St Petersburg for the worlds?
