Ok you asked for more ideas, I would go and purchase a 60x20 rain tarp, have it cut to your boat cover and sew it in with proper threading or just strap it down prior to putting on the outside cover. Go and purchase the good soft expensive stuff but just enough to cover the areas where you are having problems to cut down cost. Have velcro sewn on the areas on the bottom of the tarp and on the soft stuff to attach or remove. This is the most economical manner I can think of, please post how you make out.

I go through about 4 tarps a year, I buy them at Walmart or Home Depot, I get the 16x10 and only cover my cockpit, they are about $17, I have some pvc set up to act as a bowed support like a tent. I haven't master it yet and once in a while the pvc will slide and the tarp will catch about 100-120 gallons of water, the weight will pop the eyelets off the tarp that are strapped down with plastic bungee cords or suction cups attached with bungee cords, hence me buying a new one every quarter. I put on the rain tarp first, then the boat cover. This weekend I'm gonna work on the pvc so the rain can't catch and fill, just run off like a tent. I don't have a lot of cash right now, or I would buy a good one and have it cut and sewn into my boat cover. I guess it would cost about $200-300 to do it.

I called http://www.carriecovers.com/home1.php. I received their samples. The cover kinda feels like a nylon, there Ultralite is thin a inside cover, and the Hydo Shield is thicker, the back of the material is not soft.so I believe it will have abrasion [on paint] to it in the wind flapping etc. reasonable prices, they probably would have to have the boat to make a decent fitting cover.I tested them they seen to be water replant,You cant blow air thru it.Its like they say a poker run cover,If it sat out side at a poker run you could throw this cover on it,or use it inside your shop.this want work for me.

(No Trailering!!)

I will get some close up pictures of them.

I called Phil at P and G Canvas,Newyork area. Phil said they do the covers for Hustler factory.he uses the Sunbrella supreme fabric,He mentioned something about sowing in a softer backing?? he seemed high on his price to me,but his quality could be higher compared to others? with talking to him it sounds like he goes into detail on making them FIT.

Talking

Sunbrella

I received some sunbrella samples. Its the material like whats on my boat now.It seems to have starch in it,I guess that it being new, My cover is worn/softer than the reg sumbrella.

I must of talked to bunch of so called tech's.they can read the brochures good, none had any experience. I got ahold of a guy that new his shet!! I didn't tell him up front what I was doing,I asked what the Sunbrella Supreme material was for and why does it have a felt looking backing(being softer) like the felt on a pool table but with starch. He said it was for looksHe said its made for canopy's for boats[enclosure],its the same color as the top side and is suppose to look like a Headliner in a car,I asked physical difference , he said it would help in being water proof, these 2 fabs are bonded (glued) together. Then i told him I wanted a soft backing as to not scratch.chafe/my paint ,told him its not gel coat its like a paint job on a car thats just for car shows. He said it will be abrasive ,alittle better that the regular Sunbrella canvas.sounded like the truth finally, now if I was buying a new cover I would use this material and ad a protective material to protect the paints high spots that get chafed in the wind,I also will not tow with the cover on again,The 877 mile trip up to Mitch's showed chaffing in the paint,he fixed those places while painting the rest.

The Sunbrella guy Allen (materials specialist) said they sell to a Co that makes covers for helicopters and airplanes to protect the windshields, its usually acrylic.there in Ca.I would Think it would have to be the best you can buy being how expensive the windshield cost $$$$$. He said they use his supreme material and bond a Polyester material to protect the glass and paint on the back side. Now Allen is recommending a company that he doesn't work for.

As of now I am calling the 2 people he recommended and I'm going to research the Polyester and what is there suggestions. One is the Mill and the other is the cover maker.I figure Ill get some good info from them!!

I still have a concern about the material holding water. My factory full cover had car seat vinyl sowed in were the vinyl side touched the paint, the reason must of been they were protecting the cover from think like cleats, top edge of windshield.

I have some pictures of the back of the regular Sunbrealla and there supreme, its weird how they look zoomed in to see the actual fibers.

Allen at Sunbrella # is 867-716 4348

I also found out your suppose to be sowing with a # 16 needle..

I trying to find out the thread,Mine now has a black thread, thick, claimed to be UV,but its

Phil at P&G canvas said he use to use flannel, said it didn't hold up??

I wonder what the high dollar boat manufactures are using for boat covers, what backing? say Outerlimits,Nor-Tech,Cig,all the people with the high dollar paint jobs, Not the guys that walk on the boats with shoes on!

There has to be a person or company that knows all the fabrics on this board/

thanks again guys

Lightbulb

Still researching

heres a site with diff kinds of Fleece, different blends, hard to tell which one to go with?

http://www.denverfabrics.com/catalog...aspx?TypId=585

I got a hold of the helo and air plane cover maker,Bruce custom covers,in Ca
http://www.aircraftcovers.com/

Tom was real helpfull,he said they use a micro fiber polyester Dinier sueded fabric.they sow it on the back side to protect the windshield on the planes, and the helos that have the big bubble front ,He said they do not sow across were it would rub on the glass, that the thread would scratch it,the widest place is around 45inchs on mine,I would think with these being a acrylic ,form of plastic it would be softer than any car cover material, being the plastic scratches easy.

Tom said they came out with a new material thats called something like Outdura,sp' said its a 3 layer and is a lot better than what there using now but its real bad expensive,I would assume that its about 30 a yard.

most have been saying you want a non-woven backing fabric,

Tri Vantage sent me some samples, there the water resistant with the soft touch backing.it feels soft but its thin, and I just need the backing.ill call them a see if they have a backing they can sell me.

Also the Co that supples Bruce the polyester would not tell me what the were buying ,said that was proprietaryjerkoffs.Bruce covers didn't have a problem telling me there secret fabric.Ill give jerkoff a call back and get a sample of the micro fiber ploy. and see how much.He claimed to be the mil?

Rob

Ill take some close up picks of these fabrics.

Interesting thread. I need a new cover for one boat, and the canvas cover on my outlaw is putting light scratches in the windscreen - catches the sunlight sometimes and you can really see it. I'd like to have something soft underneath to protect as well.

I had an evolution cover for a viper - was very soft and never scratched the paint.
Was always garaged though = so no wind driven chaffing, so not sure how well it would do outside.
