Should I beleve this women

I sold my 390 velocity on ebay last Sunday to a guy in up state NY. I talked to him 2 times on Sunday . He said he needed a few days to make arangements to come get the boat and pay me CASH he didnt want to give me a check. He never made the deposit like the add said. I tried to call him Thursday and he never answered the phone. So I thought he was out of town or something. I tried to call Fri. and no answer. I gat a call from his girlfriend telling my he got in a wreck in va. on Tuesday. She just found out on Fri.
He didnt know my address or anthting. except I live in Port Charlotte Fl. She said the phone no. I had was hers. And she hasnt herd from him since he left. She realy didnt sound up set or anythig. She said the hospital told her he couldnt talk. Now if you were on your way to pick up a boat wouldnt you call the seller to let him know you are on your way and get an adress I

and now ebay has it that you can't even leave them NEGATIVE feedback so they bid and never pay :angry-smiley-038:

Sounds a lot like a guy here in Chicago!!!!! They must have graduated from the same school of b.s. and lies. Just beware!! And I agree with RunningHot, don't trust cash either.

Okay, I'm gullible. What's the point of winning a bid and not paying or collecting? Cheap thrills for someone who has nothing better to do? I'm not being a smartars, just don't get it.

Cheap thrills for someone who has nothing better to do?:lolhit:
Or dont have the $$$$ to wrap up the deal ,and then you end up re-listing cause once the next bidder gets a second chance ooffer they thinks its a SCAM or you just ran up there bid .have had decent luck with the smaller parts but trucks, cars, cycles, they end up having probs but they usually sell to someone who aw it on ebay and completes the deal after the auction ends.
good luck Velocity:drink:

Velocity Tom 10-24-2009 06:27 PM

I thought something was odd when after the action was over he called me and wanted a survey. I have no problem with that, but shouldnt you do that before you bid? This is my first time selling on ebay and my last. Too many strokers!!!

US1 Fountain 10-24-2009 09:29 PM

More likely cold feet/ buyers remorse??

yesrej 10-25-2009 12:19 AM

where in new york did he say he was from?

Griff 10-25-2009 01:14 AM

I've had the same BS on ebay as a buyer. I won a truck a few years ago and when I contacted the seller to arrange payment and pick up, he said it sold locally 3 days earlier.
I have had many good experiences with ebay purchases also. You just have to make sure and protect yourself.

BeakBoater35 10-25-2009 08:17 AM

I have sold 2 vehicles and perhaps a dozen smaller items on ebay. All but one went very smoothly. On the one, some idiot won the bid on the vehicle and then came up with multiple excuses not to complete the deal. We mutually agreed to kill the deal and the vehicle sold pronto on the next auction.

Interesting note...both vehicles were sold sight unseen...paid in full and picked up by a transporter. To be honest, I would not be that trusting!

Ebay is the Devil's playground...Did you check out my auctions?..LOL!

US1 Fountain 10-25-2009 09:36 AM

This isn't ebay dealings only.
I listed my previous boat here on OSO. Some dick from New York that worked for GM (I believe) called several times about the boat, then agreed to buy it. His wife/GF even called on it to talk with me. Seemed genuine. Anyways, he said he'd call back in 2 days with the info as far as having his buddy pick it up and to make the payment arrangements. Few days goes by, nothing. I called him, at which point he said he changed his mind. I had no problem with that as I wasn't out anything but a few minutes of my time and the hopeful of having the boat sold. I was a little put off he didn't have the balls to call and say he was no longer interested. As it turned out, the next person (another OSO member here) called on it, came and bought it a week or so later.

Velocity Tom 10-25-2009 09:39 AM

The guy is from Moira Ny.

It goes both ways, I have had good and more bad experiences with ebay. I think the funniest part was I bid on a 1988 Mustang GT conv. great cond. I bid it up to 8K, it was show room cond, and I was buying to collect. Anyway I e-mailed the guy after some jack ass kept out bidding me with no feedback. I told the guy I would come pick it up and pay cash. Of course I got out bid by jack ass 10K, the seller calles me up after jackass backed out, and it like you can have it for his bid, I told him to screw off, that he lost the sale due to jackass, I tld him I do I know you or your friends weren't running the bid up, his response was "you don't HA HA" I told him to ef off and hung up.

if he gave you his girlfriends number,it sounds like he doesn,t even have money for his own phone ,,then ran out of gas money in va.

Bought and sold dozens of items on ebay, though nothing over $2000, and that was a new item from a power seller. Only had one buyer back out on a $400. lens, and sold it on the next try.

Big ticket items are a different story, and I, too, would never buy something like a vehicle sight unseen.

Had very good luck w Craigslist, too- especially with buying equipment like cameras and printers that I didn't want to risk having shipped.

TomFTM 10-26-2009 08:40 AM

What was there names? I had a similar experence when I was selling my 30 motion cat a few years ago. They were boyfriend and girlfriend team from upstate NY . We negotiated a deal , and he was supposed to come and pick up the boat . When I asked them where upstate they lived and they said Rochester area , I said I have a friend up there who is a cop in the city of gates ny . Well, I never heard from them again.

robwkamm 10-26-2009 09:47 AM

I sell all the time on ebay. ive seen it all. you can do a classified listing on ebay now. its free except for pictures in the ad. only covers you for 100 mile radius though. i would just relist and block the users name from ever bidding on your stuff. i never file non payment. it will tie you up a few weeks to settle it sometimes then you cant relist righ away. atleast you still have your boat . no harm. just a waste of a week or 2.

Donman 10-27-2009 10:12 PM

I`ve sold over 100 items on Ebay. Good for the most part but as always, there are quite a few "tools" out there.

The best ( or worst, in my case ) was the guy from Chicago who won an auction for a classic car I had. He phoned within 10 minutes after auction and we made a deal for him to overnight a $500 deposit. I received the deposit and he agreed to come pick up the car in person a week later.
He calls a week later and asked if I can come down to the bus station and pick him up. HE RODE A GREYHOUND FROM CHICAGO TO TEXAS. He was planning to drive this 35 year old car back to Illinois !
He looked the car over and drove it around town for 30 minutes. (It was a super-nice old Mopar). He looked under the car, in the trunk, checked EVERY fluid, kicked the tires, etc... Then he looks at me and says "It`s just not what I am looking for. Can you give me a ride back to the bus station".

I drove him back, then he asked for his $500 back. I told him to get out or I`ll kick him out. :lolhit:

The guy really looked like Horshack from Welcome Back Kotter. :drink:

I bought my boat off craigslist a month ago from FL (I live in TX). I spoke with the seller several times and did a basic background check on line (backgroundcheck.com). I had a survey done by a certified marine surveyer (SAMS.org). I talked to the mechanic. Couldn't find time to visit in person so I escrowed the money (escrow.com), hired a transporter (uship.com), had a copy of the title faxed, and closed the transaction. Everything went fine and the boat is exactly as I expected. It can be done but you need to be careful and protect yourself.

HTRDLNCN 10-28-2009 12:21 AM

I have probably 2000 buy/sells on Ebay with over 1000 feedback.
Bought and sold 12 cars, boats and trucks.
Out of all those thousand of transactions
I have had maybe 10 bad experiences and have made way way more money selling on ebay than I have lost on non payers or bad deals. It comes down how much you protect yourself and how careful you are , you also have to treat every buyer as a crook until they prove themselves otherwise. trying to be a nice guy will get you nowhere in this case.

modvp 10-28-2009 05:05 AM

I had a very similar experience. I bought a boat off craigslist in late July from Tacoma Washington and had it shipped (via uship) to Maryland. The boat was a 2004 model and the transaction was smooth. However, I did not conduct a survey via a certified marine surveyor. I had the hull ID number and ran a boat fax though.

I sent a bank certified check to the seller, and had the boat and trailer titles sent to me via fedex. I also contacted the boat manufacturer and got additional vital information.

When the boat arrived 5 days later, the condition was better than I expected.

My friend bought a boat off ebay and the ad said pristine condition and none nicer. We drove 12 hours and if the guy meant pristine for being pushed off a cliff then yeah it was pristine. This boat had been throught the ringer twice. How do people live with their selves lying like that.
