How far can you safely trim out #4's on boxes???
 

How far can you trim them out without being too tough on the u joints????? Dont they use bolt to bolt on the trim rams as a way to measure???

I think Merc drives can operate between -5 to +11* trim while running hard. My buddy blown his U-joints in both of his extension boxes trimming above the safe limits. One of his trim indicator cable didn't work well , that didn't help either.

First you level the drive even with the keel. Use a long ruler and a protractor. Set the max tilt and mark your trim indicator for this safe limit.

set up on boxes wont require much trim. they are designed to extend the boat length. thus allowing a higher x and larger diameter and pitch props. u- joints can only take so much angle and all have specs to obide by. also to run your boat at speed you should be more interested in running dead level and span waves to eliminate ramping off the waves. you don't make speed flying in the air...... although it looks impressive. the idea is to keep the props in and pushing the boat. I remember countless hour setting up boxes on many 33 p plays. all ran great and required very little trim. If memory serves 4 on the tabs and 4 on the drive ran the boat quite well with b-class motors.

thanks bosco, they are side by side #4's, not staggered, if that makes a big difference. also as you know the boat is a 93, so the x dimension is limited by the rubrail. my rubrail had to be cut because the tops of my boxes go through where the rubrail would run. will this set up like the props spinning in or out???? I am running 3 blade cleavers......

When we built B-61 it was staggered set up? 1 inch airex carbon fiber and s-glass, with kevlar. very light with a great c.g. we had to ballast it!
you must have a different boat because of the side by side configuration. i.e gary c. boat was in that time frame. has the standard cabin of the day etc. all in all again a very well built and stable running boat. running props in or out will depend on where you need the lift after you put on the blowers. ass end or bow, that will be determined after you establish a good base line run. wear your life jacket for thar one... no kidding.

yeah this boat was staggered, it has been converted. this was rique fords old boat, it still has the yellow bildge with the two saddle tanks in the rear, and the two bow tanks, so the cockpit floor is lower than all of the other PP's I have seen.....You are right it is a light boat, because with about 550hp per side and the big drives and trannys, it is still running right at 90mph.....velocity vector, i love the boat, the first time i took it out it was a very confused 3-4's and it ate that up. It was soo rough my speedo blew out, and my trim tab motor ripped right off the resevoir
