Thought I would bring this thread back to life. I am currently just beginning testing on dual 600 Stage 2 Whipples and have some questions for Chris. I am concerned with running these motors near 6000 rpm. Did you run your motor for extended minutes at max rpms during the poker run. If so, for how long? Do you have any concerns about the valve train at these rpms? My engines have 60 hours on them and the upgrade was just done. So far they run exceptional. I picked up over 12 mph running the same props-so I am now on the rev limiter. :drink:I have just had the props pitched up some and should have more testing done in the next two days. Also impressive is the low end acceleration and mid range pull. The torque of a pair of these engines is unlike anything I have experienced. Pushing a 35' boat at 100 mph now only takes 2/3 throttle! :eek:Previously you had to work for it.

Can u do the 4.0 supercharger for the 700 as well? It only says for the 600 on the whipple site.

So then I take it that since yours made 960 with the closed cooling, that the 700 would make 1060, that sound about right?
My 600sci at 960 hp already had a bigger cam than the stock 700sci, and I was running a smaller pulley (creating more boost) than the 700sci. So....no.... at that level of modification...the 600sci modded and the 700sci modded....would make about the same amount of horsepower...aprox 960. In addition...we discovered that at 960 hp..the closed cooling system was maxed out as far as keeping the motor cool. I hope this helps. Dustin has more exact info...and I suggest you contact him directly... he is "the man" when it comes to this stuff. Chris |

The only differences between the 600sci and the 700sci are the cam, the bigger innercooler on the 700, and a smaller pulley on the 700 in order to create more boost.

Chris, can you please give us an update on the status of your motor?

He doesn't own the boat anymore... Had just over 1050 HP last I saw, went 104 ish.

This is great info for 600 SCI owners. I have been considering the Stage 1 upgrade, all depends on what is found wrong with the starboard engine today/tomorrow. No oil pressure, went from hero to zero in the blink of an eye. Hopefully something that has to do with the oil pick up or oil pump. Engine was rebuilt by previous owner 65 hrs on it, 230 hrs over all. If the engine needs rebuilt was considering 700 cams and Whipple program. Anyone done that mod.? If engine checks ok was going to throw Stage 1 at it.

I have a Howard Sportdeck 600 sci. I have switched to the Imco scx upper with the SC lower. 1.5 ratio. I have ran the boat with the stock 600... stage2... stage 4...
You are right to be concerned about the drive. I have gone through 3 drives but have 475 hours on motor. Motor was rebuild and tuned to a stage 4 whipple last year. With my old Max Machine XR it ran over 100mph. With the new SCX I have not ran it real hard yet, handling is good but it seems slower. It is also difficult to tell because testing in Lake Havasu in August is usually 110 degrees with a water temp about urine point six degrees. I have had it at 94-95 with the SCX but have not really tried for top speed. Maybe the speed will still be there... I hope. |
