Question Help - Car Stereo Gurus

I'm buying a '99 BMW 528i today. It does not have a cd changer, but is prewired for the factory changer. BMW quoted ~$750 to add the factory cd changer. That seems a little high so I'm considering the following options:

1. After market CD changer.

2. Complete stereo upgrade.

I've tried to do a little research, but I can't seem to find anything to fit the BMW. Can you guys point me in the right direction, or am I limited to the factory changer?

Mike

Yes I agree BMW should be ashamed with themselves on this one. As of late there was not a adaptor to put either a Pioneer or Alpine unit in them. They have a funky hook up that makes it so far imposible. I will call today just to make sure that has not changed.

Jon,

You're right it's pretty ridiculous. But with guys like Dave (Bigwavz) around It should work out. OSO to the rescue.

Dave I'll call you Monday. From what I can see the installation looks straight forward. It looks like everything is setup for plug and play.

We picked up the car yesterday and man is it sweeeeeeeeet. '99 528i, 14068 miles.

This is exactly why I didn't purchase a MB or a BMW earlier this year. The phone is $1500 and the Changer is a $1000. I think that it is BS! It is only a $200 alpine CD changer with some different firmware.
