Life Vest Cheepies just for Poker Runs ?

Lifelines are by far the best. I have a set of four for our principal attendees and several other misc. sized 100mph Jet Pilot neoprene PWC vests for other people should the need arise. I do not make a practice of driving faster than 75mph when I have people in the back. (even slower when it is rough). If I do, it is on a long straight section of flat calm water, clear of other boats, great visibility, etc., then back down to safer speeds. No one is having fun over 100mph other than the driver, so I stopped going WOT with anyone else in the boat. Poker runs are supposed to be fun. The amount of deaths / injury’s in the recent years is completely out of hand and could have been prevented. It’s not worth risking severely injuring my family or friends. Sorry for the rant, but I have been involved in poker runs for the last 12 years and it sickens me to see these ego maniacs new to performance boating having more money than sense destroying this sport (not you Rob).

Thats prob a good idea. 6-8 lifelines would not be practical in my situation,Yes I need one for myself when running above 100 by myself. I figure when I hit the water it will knock me out and probably take a gulp of water,also the ski vest will rip off ,but the one I tie to my ankle will more than likely allow my family to have a open casket funeral for me.

It doesn't make sense to buy cheap life vests. You wear them to save your life not conform to a poker run guideline. Like Brad said, I have water skied and crashed at 30mph, I can't imagine being tossed out of boat at 60-70-80mph after knowing what hitting @ 30 feels like. So you are laying unconsious in the water, how are you going to blow up this vest. What good is an automatic one when it is ripped off you. Other than if it somehow stays attched they may be able to find the body. Buy good ones, if not Lifelines then the best ski vests you can find.

Junk.... Designed for drunk fisherman who fall off the boat at anchor or sailors. Assuming even at 60 mph a rather slow pace in a poker run these jackets could fall apart on impact. I water-ski hard and even at 45-55 mph (cutting the wake at 36 mph) in a fall I have broken ski vests that were built much better than these junk inflatables. Not picking on this brand I am picking on all brands of inflatables. Get Lifeline Poker Run jackets. I have racing friends that have fallen out of drag boats at 100+ mph and were nearly killed wearing Lifelines "racing jackets" and helmets. Most went to the hospital.

get a good poker run Lifeine. Sure those compact things will auto inflate but its not likely they will be anywhere around you. These arent dice you want to roll. I've actually been in the water using one of these compact vests and wont make that mistake again, almost cost me my life.

A quality high impact life preserver is a must for all passengers.
I can not imagine the pain, and guilt you would feel if one of your passengers lost their life while in your boat, and it could have been prevented if you had only ponied up a couple hundred dollars for the proper life preserver.
Too often these accidents turn into recovery missions instead of rescue missions. Be safe, tether up, and provide the proper safety equipment.

I have been told that if safety checked by Coast Guard that they have to be automatic for them to consider the jackets approved/legal by their guidelines. No manual jackets for the being knocked unconscious in the water scenario.

The problem is most people who get ejected either hit the boat on the way out, hit another passenger, or get hit by the boat. Auto inflatable vests do not provide any impact protection whatsoever.
