NJ members, need hlep with GSP

I am looking to trailer my boat down to Toms River this weekend. Can I trailer it down the Garden State Pky??? I know that we use to trailer the race car to English town on the GSP and they also allow Buses but what about a 28' boat on a twin axel trailer????

Philip 04-11-2002 11:44 PM

HB,
No problem, just watch out at the tolls, don't get caught in the ez pass lane unless your pass is for the trailer also.

I run the Parkway all the time, Check with your EZ pass if you can use yours for Trailer, I just went to Florida and they told me I can for limited use the Toll will automaticlly adjust the price,

ScarabMike 04-12-2002 07:57 AM

You won't have any problems towing on the GSP. Just keep to the RIGHT at all toll plaza's. It seems to have become a game just trying to find the cash lanes at the tollbooths.

I just towed my 31 Scarb down to Tom's River last weekend. I blew up 1 motor and towed it back on Monday.

Do you run in that area often. I have a house in Tom's River right on the water. When I get back in, maybe we can meet up some time.

They are right. I'm thinking of towing my 28' to Maryland from CT and I called the NJ State Troopers. They said no problem.

Just watch out for idiots !! Those lanes are only 9' wide I think ,where as most roads are 10' .It is going to seam real narrow ,especialy on the bridges . But you'll make it ! Just don't scuff up the sides of the boat !!:D

Jayl13 04-12-2002 09:00 AM

I did it no prob
30' Baja
Toll booths are a little bit tight but other than that you will have no problems. I was cruising about 75 on the open boring parts
in traffic I kept it at 55-60 ish
Went just fine

My boat is up and down the GSP a few times a month. Boot is right, lanes are pretty tight but its a good road so atleast your not bouncing.
I have to work tomorrow otherwise I would meet you over at Andy's. My boat is there now just waiting to get Fiberglass touch up. Dam Hudson River sharks.

Hot Boat 04-12-2002 09:14 AM

I will be heading down on sunday.

ScarabMike 04-12-2002 10:29 AM

HotBoat,

Still not sure what plans this weekend holds for me. I may be doing just the opposite. My shop called me yesterday to tell me that Merc sent them a long block to replace mine under warranty :D.

They are located at about the NY/NJ border. I may go up there this weekend to see what's going on. I'll know by Saturday. I'll let you know if I'm going to be there.

Tantrum 04-12-2002 11:13 AM

ScarabMike,
Who are you using to do that kind of motor work up here?

Ron P 04-12-2002 11:39 AM

Get off at exit 88 for Typhoon. Let me know if you need directions.

ScarabMike 04-12-2002 02:48 PM

Tantrum,

Your neighborhood boat dealer is also a good friend of mine. Although he doesn't specialize in performance boats, he does have the ability.

If you take a drive by on route 17 this weekend, you will certainly see my 31' Scarab right in the front of the yard. You can't miss it!

P.S. I also have a 1998 Monterey 26' cruiser in his lot that is for sale. Thought I'd mention it in case you knew anyone local who was in the market for that. It has every availablle optiona dn I certainly spared no expense in the options. It has a 7.4 MPI with a Bravo III. The boat runs around 50 with a medium load.

Hot Boat 04-12-2002 03:23 PM

Ron if you could give me some directions that would be great. I have a set here from last time I went but I would of never of found the place if I didn't have C spray in the truck with me.

Thanks
Paul

No Problem.

GPS to exit 88, turn left onto Rt 70. At the first light (home depot) turn right. Follow that road to the end. Turn right onto Brick Blvd. You want to turn left at the 3rd light but you can't so you need to follow the stupid Jug handle off to the right side. There is a Dunkin Donuts at the intersection. So you are actually making a left onto Kettle Creek Rd. (the other side of the road is Church Road in case there is a sign over the intersection.

Typhoon is up a mile on the left of Kettle Creek.

Help yourself and go to www.mapquest.com and print a map for Kettle Creek Rd in Toms River NJ.

Thanks Ron :)

Pure Energy 04-14-2002 02:16 PM

Towed my 31' Sonic to Typhoon behind a commercial pick-up, no problem. Cop followed me for about 20 min., then decided to drive on by. Lanes do get a little narrow in spots.
