50 Sailors for Breakfast
My girlfriend arranged to get 50 new recruits off of the Great Lakes base for Christmas dinner.
They have not been off base or allowed to call home in 8 weeks and are graduating in 4 days.
We had some pretty strict rules and had chaperones with them at all times no drinks or smoking was allowed
The local theater arranged for them to take in a movie and a friend of mine opened their resteraunt for dinner for them.
We set up all of the voulenteer help and I cooked in the kitchen. We even had santa there
Dinner weas great beef ham veggies and mashed and augrautin potatoes
After dinner there was kareoke so everyone sang
All of the help who had unlimited packages on their cell phone let the recruits use them too call home a nice surprise to their parents on Christmas day.The had not been in contact with them for 8 weeks
Well off on a overnight trip to Australia tommorrow has bee a busy week but it was great
Well have to pack will post some pics tommorrow

klaw,
That's awesome that you guys did that for the new recruits. A family in GA invited about 20 of us to their home when I was going through my training back in 1990. I can't remember their names anymore but will never forget their generosity by opening their home to us during the holidays especially being so far away from home for my first time.

Because it depends on the training cycle & Drill's. Ex. While I was in Basic Training/ Winter Cycle 2008/2009, we were allowed to use our phones every Sunday for about 15 minutes. There were exceptions, such as Holidays, when the base was more or less closed/ no training. Otherwise, that was all the phone usage we were allowed. Some other training companies, were not allowed any phone usage whatsoever. But the biggest controlling factor is the Drill Sergeants/ Drill Instructors. They have the ultimate say, on whether or not you will have phone privileges, throughout Basic Training, branch matters not.
