Towing
At what weight do you guys consider moving from a 350 to a diesel for towing?? I am currently looking at a couple of 35 lightnings, and am wondering if a 350 z71 will do it. Dealer says the boat is 7700 dry
Thanks! |
Did you sell the Baja? A half ton pick up is rated to tow 7500. That 35 with a trailer will be close to 10000, A 2500 series pick up will tow 10000. You can get used 2500s for the same price as 1500s, Where is the 35? Jim Earles?........Doug

you had better consider the turbomax diesel with the allison transmission with 410 rear end ratio.they are awsome!!.there would be too much of a strain on the 350 ." been there done that thing!!!!!!"

Sorry, the 350 TBI in my Jimmy has its hands FULL with my 29 even with the 4:10 gears The 29 wieghs about 6000, so I figure Im right at about the trucks towing limit of 7500 when I got the boat on the trailer......

I pulled my Formula rated at 8500 pounds new plus a heavy steel trailer with my F250 with a 302. Did it pull as well as my F350 dually with the Powerstroke.... No of course not but it was not bad. You just have to accept that getting up to speed takes some time and you will not accelerate up hills. Also grear ratio is everything when towing.

Thanks for all the responses guys....outer37, sounds great but I'm going to check out these local ones first ....is it a 35?

If you tow any kind of distance to the water and are looking at a 35' boat, I would start looking into more power, like a diesel....Fred
