What problem could they have with us and this thread?

tommymonza 01-24-2010 11:51 PM

Not us Me.

Steve you obviously know your composites and I know you may not want to comment which i fully understand but what do you think of the laminate thickness on the hullsides?

Hi Tommy. I've been lurking about this thread a bit and thought I'd say hi.Ha, that's funny, you got banned on YF! You're as easy going as they come and you actually know a bit about the water and boat construction. Their loss. Thanks for the boat ride again.Hope to see you again soon.

What's going on with this investigation? I was following this for days and it had some interesting stuff on here.

Well I have been searching around the net to see if there was ever any conclusion to this incident and have found non.

I have poured over the stills from the video and I just stumbled across some pics of the boats rudder housings that made me go HMMMM.

what are those pics illustrating?

edit, just saw your post above them. wouldnt they sustain heavy damage as it rested down?

tommymonza 08-23-2014 12:37 PM

The top photo is what the rudder and housing looks like from outside the boat right now with the second photo just being a enlarged pic of the 1st.

That top half of the 2nd pic shows the fiberglass rudder tube. That is supposed to be in the boat, not hanging out the bottom of the boat.. In the closeup you also see the brass flange that secures to the outside of the boat and supports the bottom of the the rudder post . Notice how small the flange is and how close the mounting screws are to the circular hole cut for the flange to pass thru. Maybe a 1/2 inch of meat for the screws to grab. And the screws look tiny, almost like the are not thru bolted.

Also the bottom of that tube is supposed to be heavily laminated to the inside bottom of the hull. If you blow up that 2nd pic you can see an edge of what remains of that lamination. . Nothing but a very thin layer by evidence of how thin the ridge is you view right above the brass rudder bushing.

You see that Dave?
