East Coast stopover suggestions
I'm running my new 42' Post up from FL to CT next month.
So far, stops include Daytona, Brunswick GA, Charleston SC. I need to hear of some good waterside spots to dock & eat (drink??) in Brunswick and also suggestions for North Carolina, Virginia (Norfolk area) and Maryland. Weather permitting, we will be on the ocean as much as possible but inside possibly at Cape Fear or Cape Hatteras & up the Pamlico & outside again from Norfolk. Thanks........... Dave |
Dave, Don't forget to stop off in Coinjock.:D :D

Dave,
It has been a while since I made this run, but: Daytona, Daytona Marina, 386.252.6421 Charleston SC City Marina, 843.723.5098 Moorehead City NC M.H. City yacht Basin, 252.726.0051 Baltimore MD Tidewater Yacht Basin, 410.625.4992 And of course, the prime rib in Coinjock. I don't know how far you are going to run each day, but I used to make these stops, both south and north bound. once you leave tidewater you will be comming into NJ, AC. for the night, and then into CT. I made this trip many times, you will have a ball, wish I was going with you. just watch the low water in the sounds and bays, rivers between M.H. city and baltimore if you are running inside. Dave, why are you stopping in GA? you should be able to make the run from Daytona to Charleston direct? Philip |
While in Brunswick go out to St. Simons eat at Crab Trap, or right in the square at the pier there are several great restaurants w/ counch fritters and cold beer!yum yum!! Or at the base of the bridge onto St. Simons ( Brunswick side) there is a little place called Spankys best damn little Bar around, do I sound like I have a drinkin problem or what? anyway Lots to do on the Is. when ya gonna be there?:D :D

Beaufort North Carolina. I probably misspelled it. Nice little seaside town.

Norfolk / Virginia Beahc
DJD - If you come into Norfolk on the ICW via the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal, there is a nice marina at the Waterfront in downtown Norfolk - 36.50.600N / 76.17.500W. It's just as you come out of the Southern Branch.
If you come up on the outside along the coast, when you get to the mouth of the Chesapeake, you can save yourself some time by not running all the way into Norfolk. Just pull into Lynnhaven Inlet - 36.55.100N / 76.05.400W and make a sharp left (East). There are several good places to tie up for a meal, or you can go about a mile up Long Creek, and you will find a nice new Marina on the left (North) side. (Sorry I don't know the name of it.) |
Depending on the time of day, we will defenately stop at Coinjock for Prime Rib!
Phillip, if we get out early on the first day, I'll make it to St Augustine & then Charleston will be a 200 mile trip (doable in a day) but I have a feeling we won't get underway till late morning. 200 miles will take about 10 hrs provided we get good weather & can run outside. (damn! 20 mph is going to suck after what I have been used to). Thanks for all the phone #s ! jrocket, thanks for the info, If we stop there, Spankys it is! We would be there on the 23rd of May. Cive me a call 203 962-5494 or on the VHF. "Post Time" on ch 16. Chuck, we will be in that area & thanks for the info! |
don't forget atlantic city. pull into trump marina and do all the casinos.
