Cleaning the gunk off the motors

What's the best way to wash your motors off? I've got a build up of grime starting to appear and I want to clean them up before it gets bad.

I used to use Castrol Superclean, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Worked great though...

Super Castrol Cleaner or another one called Grease Lighting Degreaser are both available at Pepboyz (and probably most local auto shops), and a product called Purple Power is pretty good and available at Lowes.

If you use any of the above products make sure you "test" them on a small area or other material first. All of them should work, but you might want to heavily dilute them so you don't stain your bilge comp. or take the point off of your motors!

So it's OK to get the motors wet using fresh water??

Don't use chemicals on your engines, it will ruin the Finnish. It will ruin aluminum.

Strip... I think I se a spot on one of those! Just kidding. I see you take very good care of your motors. So- just to be clear... I can spray my motors with cleaner ( simple Green) and then hose them down with water?? Then after that spray them with CRC 656.

I use Gunk degreaser. It will not hurt anything....paint, polished alum., etc. Just don't spray water right at the distributor or straight in the flame arrestor. Everything else is OK to get wet.
