ok this may be a dumb idea but I saw some cheap trolling motors today and got me thinkin about having it as a back up.
When my drive blew up I felt completely helpless and moving towards a jagged rocky shore.. It`s small enough to fit in the engine bay... question is would move the boat? even if for short distance or just to buy some time...

I remember seeing a pic once of a turbine cat that installed a small trolling type motor on top of the trim tabs for maneuvering without firing up the turbines.

I am sure it would work in an emergency but I wouldn't rely on it to get you back to the trailer.

If you are going to go that route spend a little more money on a 4hp gas and you might make it back to the ramp.You would need a big trolling motor and if it was windy i don't think you would move.

Where would you mount it?

[ I thought about doing the same thing with a 5 hp outboard and some type of clamp on bracket for the swim platform. I dont think a trolling motor would move it very well, but I could be wrong.

That would not even push your boat against the wind. You would probally need a 101 pounder and three batteries but then your cheap solution is no longer cheap.

Some of the reviews make me believe it could work ok in a jam
For a $100 I think I may try it. if its no good I`ll put it on a pool raft:drink:

Try an anchor, and a cell/vhf to Boat US for which you have a membership.
