Trolling motor

ok this may be a dumb idea but I saw some cheap trolling motors today and got me thinkin about having it as a back up.
When my drive blew up I felt completely helpless and moving towards a jagged rocky shore.. It`s small enough to fit in the engine bay... question is would move the boat? even if for short distance or just to buy some time...

I remember seeing a pic once of a turbine cat that installed a small trolling type motor on top of the trim tabs for maneuvering without firing up the turbines.

I am sure it would work in an emergency but I wouldn't rely on it to get you back to the trailer.

If you are going to go that route spend a little more money on a 4hp gas and you might make it back to the ramp. You would need a big trolling motor and if it was windy i don't think you would move.

Where would you mount it?

[ I thought about doing the same thing with a 5 hp outboard and some type of clamp on bracket for the swim platform. I dont think a trolling motor would move it very well, but I could be wrong.

That would not even push your boat against the wind. You would probally need a 101 pounder and three batteries but then your cheap solution is no longer cheap.

Some of the reviews make me believe it could work ok in a jam
For a $100 I think I may try it. if its no good I`ll put it on a pool raft:drink:

"pushes my 14' v bottom well even on a windy day with 3 people and motor and gear.
does better than my old 35#moter guide that was 15 yrs old"

"I bought this motor for a 12' john boat, it works great and moves the boat just fine. I troll on mountain lakes for trout and this motor goes all day on just one batterie."

"I put this trolling motor on an all-welded aluminum jon boat. The boat is 14 1/2 ft with a beam of 56". It has a 25 Yamaha and with me, all my gear and one other person it has no trouble pushing this boat along at a good speed. It works well in weeds and is easy to operate. I would recommend this for any one looking for a good, reliable motor."

"ok first of all this motor was perfect for what I wanted to use it for, I constructed a motor mount on the rear of my pontoon boat, 9ft, and I located two 9in +7in deep cycle batteries, first time on the lake with the 5 speed motor I was impressed with the thrust, and the mobility of the motor, and the telescoping control is a plus...quite and smooth, I would recommend this product to anyone..."

Try an anchor, and a cell/vhf to Boat US for which you have a membership.
