Try Progressive. They have insured boats in the past for me that no one else would insure. Is it Hp that they're complaining about, or value? I've been pretty good at getting away with lying about Hp in the past, but I don't know how risky it is. I worry more about theft/fires than I do high speed collisions or failures.

cigrocket 01-28-2010 05:38 PM

Wakezone....... Stacy will set you up, with the lowest price and great service.

Quinlan 01-28-2010 06:13 PM

If you have NO tickets

fireboatpilot 01-28-2010 06:14 PM

I'm sure the break in the deal is just because it's a "Cat" and to top it off, most likely his first cat? Not even Gieco insures cats and their the biggest promoter in the sport, go figure. Stacey can help and some othere on OSO as well. Be ready for a boning and no LUBE!

KWIKSS 01-28-2010 11:58 PM

Anyone will insure you, its just do you want to pay for it.

I'm a first time boat owner with a 02 29 outlaw and pay about $800 year.

Not everyone will insure a Cat and the ones that do it will charge 2-5K a year.

Hardly anyone will insure a cat especially a first time cat owner. Is that 29' a single engine? That would explain your rate. I went from a 30' Scarab twin at under $800. per year to a 32' cat same engines out of the Scarab to $over $3000. per year first year.

teamsynergy 01-29-2010 08:26 AM

We tried waksezone but came back as a no go due to 2 speeding tickets... 5 years ago! I have not had one since then but apprantly ins companies look that far back...

Quinlan 01-29-2010 10:10 AM

Exactly

fantastixvoyage 01-29-2010 10:29 AM

He states that he's passing on the cat and moving on to a Baja and still having problems. Easiest bet in MI is progressive but keep in mind they have gotten horrible reviews when it comes time to pay a claim.

Most places have a 50 or 60mph limit as well. My phantom only goes 60 :drink:

That is strange, state farm insures my 32 fountain with twin 502's. I would think a 29 V with 454s would not be hard to insure.

How old are you, what state are you in?

Do you have tickets?

First boat?

phragle 01-29-2010 10:39 AM

USAA does my 25 v with twins for $125 a year.. 46 y/o no tickets EVOC certified.

just like the old L88 corvettes. It goes 60mph...at 3,000 rpm's. I have never been asked what the rev limiter was set at.

phragle 01-29-2010 11:33 AM

So if you lie to get insurance, then your claim gets denied because you lied, whats the sense of having insurance in the first place??

My insurance company told me as long as the accident was under 55mph it wouldnt matter. That was with a 38 baja

Brandon 01-29-2010 12:15 PM

I have used Progressive and Nationwide on my current boat. Its a 27' Century Ultra II with twin 454's. I believe I paid around $50 with Progressive and about $40 with Nationwide a month. I had 1 claim with Nationwide when I hit a submerged log and messed up a drive. I work on boats so I did my own estimate and had the check in 1 week to cover the damages.

I don't think they could really deny your claim. It depends on what your claim is and what your claim is for. What I've always done is lied about Hp. I give them the base Hp that the boat came with, and don't mention any motor upgrades. How am I supposed to know that adding a stroker kit makes more Hp? I just thought it magically went faster! :grinser010:

Wildman_grafix 01-29-2010 01:22 PM

I just checked with Geico for my 2000 32 fever,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Sorry we don't insure older performance boats:eek:

JasonSmith 01-29-2010 01:41 PM

My 90+mph 29 Outlaw is about $1800 a year with American Reliable. 100% honest with HP & speed.
Oh, my 29 is for sale too!

I have never seen a claim get denied within reason. Even if i had to prove it, simply toss in 4000rpm chip and done. :party-smiley-004:

Yeah... It might have something to do with MI law. I had friends that had "4cyl. mustangs" that went 9 seconds in the 1/4 mile (8.90's to 9.30's... they were really stroked Windsor motors.. 408 ci.). They would get them appraised with all their new motor parts and insure it as a reg. 4cyl mustang. One of them got stolen and the Ins. Co. paid out $20k on a car they were insuring for a couple of hundred dollars a year.

Were you paying the premium of filing a claim when they told you that??? and if it is not in writing..it means nothing...

That's not true! What your salesperson tells you is definitely part of the bargain... And it's generally part of their records, as long as it was over the phone.

waterheater 01-29-2010 02:07 PM

Ins

Ive have had Allstate for years insuring my Top Gun, Granted i started with 16', then 22 with a 454, then a 25 Nordic with a 496 HO and have had no issues even though the Cig is on a hit list with them. Even though im an agent with them, these days im not even sure theyd cover it. But Progressive does insure many HP boats depending in driving history, etc. Good luck

kneeslider74 04-18-2010 08:30 PM

Try this!!!!

I have a 30 foot excalibur cat and got it on my homeowners can you belive it! Declared over 1000hp twin and 90mph top speed. Didn't think 1200 was too bad, try it out.

jwurl 04-18-2010 08:35 PM

I have State farm on my Formula. No problems and $650.00 year full coverage. Jeff Wurl

Russ13100 04-19-2010 06:02 AM

We have all our policies with State Farm so when we bought our boat last september I approached them about getting a policy on it. The boat is a 24' Sunsation Aggressor with a stock 415hp 502, they denied the policy stating the HP to Length ratio was not acceptable. Maybe that is the case here with state farm also???
