We LOST this round

The judge in Manatee Lawsuit has ruled against any new science in the way Manatee's are protected.

Shor',
I'm afraid you guys are next!:(
I have a dinner party to go to @ Capt. Tom Mcgill's house Sat. night, I will find out if this is going to be appealled, which I'm pretty sure it will be.
Man, what a bummer! Plus, the STM is back in court in Washington DC!!!
MD

Shane 04-18-2002 07:56 AM

That sucks Dean! Keep up the fight!
Shane:mad:

Iggy 04-18-2002 08:30 AM

DAMN!!!

CigDaze 04-18-2002 08:36 AM

Well, that puts a friggin' damper on things!
Sorry to hear that! They spread like disease...

supercrash 04-18-2002 09:19 AM

Baja...What spreads like a disease...?...I hope your not talking about the Manatee..It's no wonder the people that are fighting STM and doing more damage than good for their cause....well now it's the waiting game..give it 10 years and lets count Manatee again...that will tell the story

CigDaze 04-18-2002 09:35 AM

Nope, it's the people unfortunately...and the their haphazard legislating

Iggy 04-18-2002 09:52 AM

These restrictions that'll be enforced will not only "save the manatee" but will also do a host of other things too.

No more marina expansion or new docks.
Buisnesses will fail due to lack of customer base because they depend on the boating and fishing community.
Property values will drop.
Local government will loose tax revenue causing layoffs of municipal employees (policeman, fireman, trash collectors, waste treatment, ect.).
Local unemployment will rise.
The area will fall into a major recession/depression.

But that's ok, we're possibly saving a creature that may or may not be on the road to extenction.
All in the name of "Save the Manatee".

supercrash 04-18-2002 10:03 AM

Iggy....you almost sounded credible till you said it will cause a major recession/depression in the area.......Please...

Shane 04-18-2002 10:18 AM

Right on Iggy. The depression might be a bit stretched but the economic effects will DEFINITELY take their toll! Way to many negatives and very few if any positives. Let's see...negatives out way positives...seems simple enough to me, but we ARE talking about politicians here, NOT logical thinkers!

Dean Ferry 04-18-2002 10:24 AM

Go to this website, pull down on the main page and click on "Lee County, Dock permits in Limbo" Also, read the article, "Manatees and boating Facts, March 2002".

http://www.standing-watch.org/

Iggy, BD, Shor' , Nasty Habit, etc, we have got to get more organized and fund this appeal. I'll have more info. after the dinner party Saturday night.
Please go to
www.cfwbrevard.org
Or the Standing Watch site
This Bad News has not hit their websites yet, but it will. This decision is so one sided, that it is very appealable.
MD

Iggy 04-18-2002 10:36 AM

You don't and probably never lived in and area that's dependant on tourism or a limited source of revenue.
I grew up on the Jersey shore in a community that depended heavily on summer/seasonal tourism. Any time this country had a recession or some natural disaster prevented people from going to the beach we suffered greatly. Property values would rise and fall like the tides, depending on how the year was going.
If the tourists didn't come we'd loose income, jobs, buisnesses would close, people would be layed off, prices would rise in an attempt to make a profit and the area would generally become depressed. One bad season would take two or more years to recover.
People like you who live in major cities, like Chicago, don't have those worries and don't understand the impact these regulations will have.

supercrash 04-18-2002 10:48 AM

Iggy....Iggy....Iggy....If we look at Jeb Bush , and what he has cost Florida taxpayers it is HUGE compared to what the protective zones for the Manatees would do...

1...The International Medical Corporation fraud..cost to taxpayers (iggy) ..353 million

2....Or the 4.5 million loan he defaulted on that contributed to the collapse of the Florida S&L...Which cost taxpayers 285 million.

Not to mention the Oil and gas frauds , Real Estate fraud , Medicare fraud , HUD fraud....on and on and on...

You guys are fighting the wrong fight...While you are fighting for your boat speeds Jeb is raping your state..And YOU the taxpayer is picking up the bill for this pathetic excuse of a Gov.

If this kind of fraud doesn't hurt the state do you really think the "protective zones" will....?

I'm not getting on the Manatee issue...I can't say the STM has good intentions with everything they do...And it looks like Dean is fighting for both sides...so thats a plus for us all

CigDaze 04-18-2002 10:52 AM

State?...NO.
Localities?...YES!

Audiofn 04-18-2002 11:26 AM

Jesus when will they ever be happy????? (answer) NEVER. What is up man this sucks. My buddy said any more manatee zones to restrict his access out to the ocean and he is going to sell.

Jon

CigDaze 04-18-2002 11:30 AM

I wish him luck!
Fact: Property is valued higher in non-restricted waterfronts.
Fact: Property value decreases after zoning!
Fact: An hour of Idleing is not attractive to the prospective waterfront home buyer!

Dean Ferry 04-18-2002 11:33 AM

Jon,
I can't really blame him, that is the ULTIMATE goal of the ECO-Radical groups is to move everybody off the coast and inland about 10 miles. BUT what he can do is get involved, if he is so inclined. Just send him to the websites I've listed here and he get all kinds of info. on how to HELP fight this B/S.
MD

supercrash 04-18-2002 11:33 AM

Baja your post mentions facts about $$MONEY$$

Not about doing the right thing..:(

Dean Ferry 04-18-2002 11:48 AM

MD:mad:

mlitefan 04-18-2002 11:48 AM

So what is "the right thing"?

CigDaze 04-18-2002 11:51 AM

I swear sc, you are the proverbial antagonist!:D ;)
"Right" is subjective...
Right for who?

Half Fast 04-18-2002 12:16 PM

Supercrash are you really just Al Gore in disguise? Every thread you comment on turns into a liberal rant against a Republican. Personally, I have no feelings either way about Jeb Bush but your accusations without an offer of proof make me dismiss you immediately. If you want to bad mouth Jeb Bush start another thread about it and take your lumps like a man. Then we can also debate the upstanding reverand and politicians in your back yard. I'll wager that if boating in your area was banned because it threatened non endangered wildlife your tune would be different. This thread was about the absurd legal antics going on in FL to protect a species that has no apparent need for protection. If docks and marinas can't be built and people cannot enjoy the waterways of FL in anything other than a rowboat then it is obvious that the effects on the real estate prices, economy, and jobs will be negative. If lies, deceit, and junk science are needed to win the court battles in defense of Manatees, then maybe the animal is really not in jeopardy at all. I am all for saving an animal that needs saving but these type of tactics by STM make me wonder what is really going on.

Shorgasm 04-18-2002 02:13 PM

Damn Crash......You spend a couple weeks being nice and people actually are nice to ya.......then ya fight with them the first chance you get......Please to god man tell me why you FEEL the need to do this.....

Once again Crash buddy..........it's not the protecting of the manatee's that is the concern .........it's the tacftics of their group and when they get there way the run rampant with restrictions that flat KILL boating for US HERE IN FLORIDA.......Do you get it....or do you just like to cause a ruckus...?......

Oh and for the last time man..........nobody is talking about Jeb in this thread.......why do you alwyas have to bring him up in unrelated threads........

Chris288 04-18-2002 02:29 PM

PROVERBIAL ANTAGONIST ????

Thanks for putting it " NICELY " Daze...
;) ;) :p :p :p

CigDaze 04-18-2002 02:40 PM

Sc and I have exchanged all kinds! Right Crash? ;)
More often than not he pisses me off like no one else and I him I'm certain...But hey, that makes it interesting!

Chris288 04-18-2002 02:46 PM

All I can say is...

IF you FLORIDUH guys EVER smuggle a MANITEE up to NY and put him in the local water-ways,, your gonna get your ASSES KICKED :D :D :D :p :p ;) ;)

CigDaze 04-18-2002 02:57 PM

Actually,
there is one particular no-brain manatee that likes to frequent the shores of NY...No one knows how it managed to get there or why, let alone survive but it does happen....You guys better watch out!!!:p :p

Chris288 04-18-2002 03:53 PM

UH OH !!!!

I better got my PROP SHARPENED,,, Take him OUT before she BREEDS !!! ;) ;) ;)

mlitefan 04-18-2002 03:59 PM

Remember the snail darter...the spotted owl...???

For the eco nazis, it's never about the truth...it's about controlling your behavior using any means necessary...

Too bad good people sometimes get caught up in the hype...

Now that's one for the Quote Books!;) :D :D

supercrash 04-18-2002 04:40 PM

Sorry you feel that way shor...I was giving a view and not "fighting"...And you are speaking for yourself when you say "it's not the protecting of the Manatee that is the concern"...I think we all know that about you...Your worried about your boating and not the well being of the Manatee..

And why do I bring up Jeb...Maybe because there are bigger fish to fry in Florida right under their noses....Defrauding the taxpayers out of millions should be the concern of people in Florida...You won't be losing any court battles...Just vote him out ...

Halffast...The many frauds of Jeb are public...look in to it..How bout his Felon wife trying to sneak 20,000 worth of jewelry into the country..or his kids commiting prescription fraud...where did you think they learned from......Sorry guys ..I just can't see how a elected gov.that is taking money out of your pockets is less important than how fast you can drive in your boat..

CigDaze 04-18-2002 04:50 PM

How the hell can you conjure up the audacity to tell us what we should be concerned about?? [sigh...]
Who do you think you are? I sure as hell don't worry about Ill politics...

Defrauding the taxpayers out of millions should be the concern of people in Florida

Shorgasm 04-18-2002 05:46 PM

Crash.....DO YOU EVER READ WHAT PEOPLE SAY TO YOU?

I truely beleive you get off on doing this.....

Please man.......it's not cool when you kick your "Family" in the sack every time we say something.....

mlitefan 04-18-2002 06:31 PM

"I sure as hell don't worry about Ill politics..."

Well...they are too busy digging up dead people so they can vote to be concerned either! :D :D

SC...The glass house you live in is just too damn big for you to be throwing stones...

Chicago...now THERE is a city that can be proud of its politics...now I see why you want to talk about Florida...

Here in Chicago it's Vote early and vote often. : D

That’s it for my political satire. I feel bad for you guys in FL.
I personally wouldn't want to harm any animal while out boating. I posted a news article about a month ago that used scientific data to prove that more of these manatee's were getting hurt because they couldn't hear the SLOW moving boats coming towards them. If the STMC was so interested in the animal and not their agenda a device could be installed that would emit a sound to keep the manatee out of certain areas.

I understand why SC is picking on your governor. It's too depressing to look at our own governor. A Republican who has been acting more like a Democrat.

Good luck with your fight,
Dan

Dean Ferry 04-19-2002 07:24 AM

Candyman,
Bingo!:D That's what I'm talking about!! This decision is BAD for the Manatee and boaters, moreso for the Manatee.
Manatees are still going to DIE from SLOW moving boats, without the Acoustic Warning Device!!

Manatee Fun Fact #785
The manatee, 16 years old, born and raised in the the Lowery Park Zoo, (Stormy was his namo:D ), that used for the Acoustic Research Study, one of the SMARTEST Manatees ever observed, was RELEASED into the wild this past Feb. by the FFWCC. It was part of their "Reintroduction of Captive Manatees into the Wild" program.
We, (CFW), think that IF we (Humans), are to do the utmost to help this animal, we NEED to learn MORE about it?! Stormy would have been the one of best sources for this data. BUT alias, the FFWCC and the STMC continues to IGNORE this area of research and stay with a NON-PROTECTION plan that is based on outdated research! Here is the Acoutic Study link for your reading pleasure
http://www.acoustics.org/press/142nd/gerstein2.html
Have a good day, TGIF,
MD
PS Is anyone using the new AC Delco "Rapid Fire 1 Spark Plug in a HP500? I'm going to post about it over in the Tech. section later.
Thanks!
