Alternative to chamois for wiping dry after washing?
 

This is more about my tow vehicle than my boat, but could apply to the boat as well.

Is there an easier way (than using a chamois cloth) to achieve streak-free drying after washing? Both my trucks are dark colored and everything (water spots, drying streaks) shows up after I wash them. I used to use a chamois (natural), but that was such a slow process, especially on well-waxed surfaced, where there is a lot of water beaded-up that needed to be wiped dry.

I use a synthetic chamois called The Absorber and it works AWESOME. Be sure that you run it through the wash a few times but DO NOT DRY IT! Also make sure whenyou stor it you just wring it out and put it away damp. You can find it at any good auto parts store and Wal-Mart.

Iv'e been waiting for a post like this. There is a product called "The Absorber" ...one of the best things I've ever bought. I have one thats 6 years old and still works like new. Great product for drying cars, boats.

I use a squegee before I dry it to remove alot of the water....works good in the morning if to stay out on the boat to get all the dead buggs off before you use your towel or chamois.

Ditto on the squeege! I use one all the time to gett eh bulk of the water off. I fyou have a good coat of wax it won't harm a thing. Just make sure it is a good squuege though.

Got Air?

Yep I use air to dry. I have two sources, air from my compressor and my leaf blower both work great. Using air is fast and it gets the water out of the spots that wiping can't. Don't laugh until you try it!

Funny you mention that...I do the leafblower thing, too...I figure if it works for the big commercial carwash places, it should be fine at home too. Just watch out for flying dust and sand particles!

Leaf blowers are great! I use it more on my cars and boats then the lawn!:D

yep, i use a squegee before i chamois. it cuts your chamois time in half and helps reduce chamois marks. a lot of professional detail shops will tell you the same. i use one called "The California Water Blade." it is actually designed for use on autos. next best thing since sliced-bread.
