Default Painting TRS Drives?????????????

Well i fell into a lil problem.

Ive stripped my TRS drives of the old paint n epoxy primer.

My local boat stores dont carry anything other than effin rattle can stuff. I was hoping to purchase quarts and spray myself. I have a paint n body shop and rattle cans just dont do it.

So where can if find the aluminum epoxy primer and gloss black paint?

Which manufacturer of products work best for the cost.

Thanks Kevin

You should be able to get it from your loacal auto body paint supplier in your area. If you call up Mercury they will let you know the best way to paint them.

Nasons epoxy primer, then Nasons' 2K urethane (single stage with hardner). Have had good luck on both motors and drives.

Prep is everything. Sand, wax/grease remover, prime, & paint. Some may even recommend an acid etch prime, expoxy prime, then paint.

Good luck.

Before painting and several times during the surface preparation process you must remove the salts, one wash will not do it. Plenty of salt removing solutions available off the shelf. A single component alkyd based rattle can will provide you short term happiness, conventional 2 part epoxy and polyurethane systems will provide you longer term happiness because the strenght of the film will hold back the corrosion for a longer period of time, but both paint system will fail when the corrosion bloom form the chlorides overpower the paint job - CLEAN THE SURFACE

As for paint brands, check the local marine supply store, these guys are in business to charge you a fortune, not to sell you the wrong materials and the products should be VOC compliant as may be required in California

Check w/ 'littledcsrodshop' here on OSO. You can find him posting in the saber forums.
He has a body shop and just painted his outdrives.
They came out real nice!

We used to use URO by dupont with either Centari(catalyzed) or Imron for the best finish.
