Painting Drives

Well i fell into a lil problem.

Ive stripped my TRS drives of the old paint n epoxy primer.

My local boat stores dont carry anything other than effin rattle can stuff. I was hoping to purchase quarts and spray myself. I have a paint n body shop and rattle cans just dont do it.

So where can if find the aluminum epoxy primer and gloss black paint?

Which manufacturer of products work best for the cost.

Thanks Kevin

Would you happen to have the product numbers?

Everything on Imron/Dupont website says not for use below the waterline.

Figured i needed a special aluminum epoxy primer/paint for just that purpose.

Otherwise since i own a paint n body shop i would just use our PPG. But i know our rep said it would not hold up if continually subjected to long exposure under water-weeks at a time.

IS that the paint or the metal etching primer/epoxy?

I FULLY STRIPPED my drives-down to the aluminum.

Thanks

PPG's single stage Concept and their DP-90LF black epoxy sealer works well and as above AwlGrip AwlCraft is pretty good to (quite possibly the best)

You can use your PPG self etching primer, then PPG's epoxy primer(sorry I dont have the #), followed by awl grip epoxy top coat. This will work best. You may have to order the awl grip online as it is hard to find at your local Automotive paint suplier.

That is what I used also approx 5 yrs ago. Drives still look brand new as of today.

Prep the bare cases with DX533 AL cleaner, then follow up with DX503 conditioner. PPG products bought from my auto paint shop.

That is exactly what we use. Don't skip the cleaner and conditioner, it makes the entire process work on bare aluminum.
