How do these compare to the Coan 2 speed trannies??

There is no comparison....Coans are a powerglide for a car with an adapter bolted to the front to make it bolt to a marine bell housing, I did that back in 2002 they worked fine till I put big power in it then they broke everytime I took it out. Which is why we built this one from scratch. Coans are not in the same ball game as these, the only thing you could compare is that his are a two speed also.

I'm not bashing coans, or bams for that matter, There is a place in the world for everything, if I was building a new boat and it was a 36 skater or smaller and I was putting 1100 hp engines in it I would just put a bam in it because it would work fine and there would be no reason for anything else, but that's not what my transmission was designed for,
