Baja 22 Caliber
Hello all!
As you can see I'm very new to the forum.
I have a noob question so I hope someone with a few mins will take the time to enlighten me.
I'm in the market for a boat. I considered Jet Boats, CC and open bows.. but when it came down to it.. I wanted a fast cruiser.
My budget is 10k. I'm not financing anything.
I found a cherry Baja 22 Caliber with a 7.4l merc locally that fits the bill. Problem is I can't find jack s#$t about this boat.
I mean... i searched google, lycos, yahoo, ebay, forums.. you name it I looked.
so my quesiton is, is this a solid boat? my uses would be generally crusing the ICW. I want speed, I want reliability, i want resale value.
HELP!

You can get 2 of the 3 with a boat like what you are looking at. Unfortunately resale value is just not something that is going to happen with most any boat these days.
As for the boat, there will be more information available in the Baja section. There are guys in that section that worked for Baja back when it was Baja.

It all depends on the boat. I had a 97 23' islander which is basically the same hull i think, just an extra foot. Was a great boat, wished i just would have kept it. if the boat is pristine as you say, have it surveyed. i am sure there are great calibers, & some that been abused & not worth your time.
the 7.4 will probably put you in the mid to high 50's for speed, possibly low 60's. reliablity depends how it was cared for by previous owners. resale value, not much. but any older boat right now wont have much resale. but at $10k, i wouldnt even worry about it.
dont know how it will handle the icw, would need someone's opinion who has been on it.
