Bravo Xr's On Top Gun

i've got an 89 top gun with bravo ones on it which have been beefed up a little, but i've recently re powered with supercharged 502's that I bought from cobra power.

I believe the engines are 680 or so hp each.

Obviously I am going to have to get bigger drives, and I'm looking at XR's.

Can I please have some advise on the best place to get them, does anyone know any second hand ones that are in good condition and how much i'd expect to pay for new ones and good condition reco's...

thanks heaps.

Don't waste your money on xr's they will not last any longer than the bravo 1's !!!! Been there done that.

Why not The ASD6?

XR's are better than Bravos......but on your boat it just means they'll last longer before breaking (not that they won't break).

If you want XR's, I just sold my boat and have my spare for sale. New upper case, new gears/bearings lower re-sealed, sanded/painted/clear-coated. $5K

680Hp that is SC'd will have a lot of torque. That combined with the weight(about 11,000lbs dry) of an 89 Top Gun is going being a drive buster. I think you need to look into some Imco SCX's or Max Machine Worx drives. I would skip the XR's and just have a few regular Bravo's on hand for spares for now. No reason to break an $7000 XR when you can break a $3500 regular Bravo instead.

Wooohooo 680s well done Priceb. Like to see you kept her & didn't go for the newer Gun you had your eye on. You planning on entering the series Adrian Bright is looking to setup??

Hi Jez,

Mate, I would enter but I don't think it is ever going to happen unfortunately, although I'd love to see it.

Did you ever sell your scarab?

I've got quite a few of these older Cigarette 38's with the Arnesons. They run a lot faster than what others are trying to tell him to use and of course he would not need spare's with the Arnesons :D

Ok...so what is the best thing to do...konrads?, Xr's, arensons? teague drives?

which would be the most durable and last the longest?

That's easy. The Arnesons and that is no b.s.

What is the cost for a set of the Arnesons? That plays in as well. How is handling and driveability affected?

Smitty 03-17-2010 04:13 PM

Arnesons are expensive to convert--23-25K per side I believe. Yes it's true they most likely will never break, but you can also buy and repair alot of XR drives for 40 grand over the life of the boat.

My only comment is that I wish Arnesons were less costly, then I would convert my rig.

List is $23K ea. and come with a one year warranty. Handling will be better than it currently is with Bravo's or any of the other mentioned options. The boat will dock better, steer better and handle better than the I/O's will.

It will also accelerate faster, cruise faster and have a faster top speed and did I mention you will not break them!

Hmmmm...this is all sounding familiar :lolhit:

Smitty 03-17-2010 07:06 PM

Rik--

What is the expected increase in top speed ???

Just wondering because when I asked about them for my Baja, you didn't leave me with the impression that I would see a top speed increase.

Typically 10 mph mid range and 10+ on top end.

Anybody done it on T/S Guns?
