Researching Center Consoles - need suggestions

I am seriously thinking of getting a center console, because I hear they are easier to maintain and easier on gas. But I wonder if what I want exists.
Here is what I would like:

Looking for 32 - 36 foot
Not looking to fish from it at all!
twin engines
needs to run 70 - 75
Want it to look more like a go fast boat - graphics, bolsters, Livorsi gauges as well as smart craft
Needs to have a vacuflush or similar - no porta chitter
Needs to have a good solid ride.
Don't want to spend alot on it - 100K (ish)
New or lightly used

Love the looks of Concept - heard good/bad things about them - would love to learn more
Drove a 32 Donzi ZF w/ 300 verados - rode nice, but was set up more as a fish boat, and would only hit 65.
Looked at 32 Sonic, nice set up, but I think it was over priced
Looked at Glasstream, seemed cheap

Need to check out Fountain them out.
Spectre wasn't at Miami show - need to check

Deep Impact, Midnight Express, Cigarette, Nortech - more than I want to spend.

What should I look for? Are my expectations too high?
Those of you that have CC; do you like them? How do they handle snotty (confused) water?

Looking for detailed advice and suggestions. Thanks in advance.

elvisali 03-15-2010 09:05 AM

Superboat has a 30 CC they just came out with, so a little smaller then you are looking for, not sure you could get a vacuflsuhin there, but John Coen could probably figure something out, might be worth at least taking a look at

LapseofReason 03-15-2010 09:20 AM

I have been looking a bunch too, if you could go a little bigger with tripps and 68-70 mph look at the Performance 40 there are a few 2 stroke ones out there for 100k or less.

My buddy has a 36 Avanti with twin 300 Verados and loves it, his dad has had 3 36 Concepts and he says his is faster with alot better ride and more room. I didn't ask him the speed but it must be upper 60's low 70's if it's faster than a Concept with same power. You can find them under 100 all day long. They make a 33 also.

TampaBeach 03-15-2010 09:34 AM

Only better on gas IF YOU GET 4 Stroke motors. Keep that inmind. Just from the description you gave, I would say Fountain, Concept, or Renegade. Fountain can put a swung forward bimini on their boats like the sporty CC's. Looks better that a t-top, more shade, and looks better.

What you want does NOT exist......you are like me (but apparently a little worse) about maintenence and cosmetics. Anything you buy will have to be shinnier than anyone else's, cleaner than anyone else's and close to faster than anyone else's......regardless of the type of boat, it will require alot of "upkeep"!!!! :)

As you kow I'm looking for a little CC for the rivers and so the kids can learn to drive around (18-21 ft). I need lots of seating (most little CC don't have it) and a porta potti. I may be forced to buy new but actually prefer a used boat with a few cosmetic issues already so I don't freak over them scratching anything!!

Good Luck, I'm actually getting tired of the search already!

bill63 03-15-2010 11:44 AM

Love my fountain runs 70 ish but you will need 3 motors to get you there. Bought mine last year and paid half the price of a new one with 150 hrs and 3 years left on warrenty.

Take a look at Proline if its for the kids. You can seat 6 and the head is under the console. Nice freeboard and good ride in rough(atleast my 21 is).

Sick Nordic 03-15-2010 01:53 PM

Check ou my 30 carrera with twin 250's in the classifieds. It does 65-68 mph and rides very well. It is perfect and I set it up with performance in mind.(I dont fish!)

craig anderson 03-15-2010 01:59 PM

Just searching around, there seems to be a couple of nice ones on Craigslist.

The only experience I have with a cc was my father's 1989 20ft Wellcraft Sport w/200 Merc. Not in the same league obviously, but definitely one of the driest boats i've been in for that ft range at least, with the flair it has.

Great help, eh?

BillR 03-15-2010 02:04 PM

Both those Concepts in the pics have the general "look" that I want. Never thought about trips, what will those 36's run with those set ups?

PM me the phone numbers and who I ask for when I call.

Aquinosteven 03-15-2010 02:12 PM

We love our whaler to death, its pretty quick too for only having 350hp and the wrong props haha. We are seeing low 60s on a good day. The new 32 is a VERY nice boat. I would check out contender, invincible, and yellowfin.

No top? or does it fold down?

Those of you that had Concepts - like or dislike em?

bulletbob 03-15-2010 02:21 PM

You won't see 70s' with twins unless you go with the Superboat. The concepts didn't impress me with their speed, but, they were nicely appointed. Good luck.

bill63 03-15-2010 02:22 PM

When researching make sure to take good look at the beam. concepts are very narrow, little over 8 ft that makes them fast but might not ride as well as you would like. My 34 fountain has a 9' 6 beam runs very well in the rough stuff.

craig anderson 03-15-2010 02:25 PM

Not much info, but......

BillR 03-15-2010 02:36 PM

I plan to ride all of the ones I'm interested in.
I rode a 32 Donzi w/ twin 300's - it rode real well. Very solid boat. I also have an opportunity to check out a 35 Donzi. Fountain's factory is 2 hours away. I plan to get Wyatt to let me ride some of thiers too. Still the Concept has "the look" of a go fast. . . . . . . . .

I really don't want to go smaller than 32. I boat in the lower Chesapeake bay and it is ALWAYS snotty out there - that is why I bought a Top Gun. But now I am looking for easy to care for.

This is very true, also Concepts are very lite. SO they are faster but ride rougher, but get great fuel economy. We have a 27 Concept 300 Verado run 60mph but can go all day on 20 gallons.

bill63 03-15-2010 03:36 PM

Fountain had some smokin deals not long ago some dealer repos.

Hi Bill.. Sold and rode both Donzi and Concept.. The Concept is a CC Performance boat made off the Apache hull. She is the best looking. wild paint jobs. But with twins never break 65mph
A blast to drive.

Donzi: I would go with a 35 Daytona.. Not a T-Top boat, radar arch, can handle rough water and you can get some really nice paint schemes. runs about the same 62-65 mph

Most Center Consoles with twins run below 70 only because they affected by wind, unlike a closed bow boat. The Center console is like a brake in the center of the boat and when you drive one you can here the wind hitting the console, The radar arch is faster then a T-top but also serves a brake for wind. but when looking at a CC the gains outway the faults. Great Party boat. Great for Coves, bar hopping, quiet, can hold a lot of people and very easy to maintain.
Best of Luck.

Speaking from experience..... I just bought my 38 fountain and I love it .
I still have my 33 Sutphen but sometimes it just gets tiresome compared to the kind of boating you can do on something like this.
Mine was set up with a second row of bolsters from fountain and it was the main reason I went with this boat vs others I was looking at.
4 people 55-60 mph drinking cocktails comfortably.

It tops 70 mph - light on everything, people, water, fuel, but consistently 68 on regular basis
but just different kind of boating all around.

I almost bought a 200k boat to replace my sutphen but figured on this and still keep the "sut" for poker runs and a days I am in that kind of mood.

letterrip 03-17-2010 07:42 AM

agree I also checked out & test drove "renegade" in miami / 2009 boat show. nice stuff! like them allot. almost went that route.

Went with fountain because of the resale, and fish world swears buy the 38 hull.

I recommend those 2 boats.

TRUST me give him a call.....that 35 Renegade is a steal.... it has triple Verado 300's with low hrs, the boat runs 71 mph and it's never been proped....it has like a 10k sound system.... Garmin 3210 gps under water lights....aluminum trailer....all the works....good luck

DENNYB 03-17-2010 03:06 PM

Bill you know I will assist you personally and order a new Concept 36 built the way you want it with the right power graphics and price. I will get you the speed your looking for with the right engine and hull combinations.Remember how happy you were with your PQ right? Don't make a mistake.

The factory has a nice new 09 34 trip Fountain at a good price. Call Tony. I love my 38 TE. Had three of them now.

chuckbeecher 03-17-2010 09:11 PM

We had a 2006 32SCX Glasstream with twin 250 Verado and after propping with a Merc Rev4 25 pitch props we ran 72-73 mph/GPS with 2-3 people and full fuel.
Had cuddy for overnight or out of weather and potty in the console..could put vacuflush if needed.
sexy/effecient/fast and fishable with boxes and live wells.

also like the Renegades.
and Sonic has some beautiful boats and watch what you offer cause you could be taking one home.

I saw a test of the Renegade, a 35' Glasstream and another 36 and the Renegade more than held its own. You won't be disappointed if you get that one.
