IP adresses
Just a question for you computer guys out there. When my anti-virus blocks access to my computer it alerts me with a little window that shows the invading IP adress. Is there any way to find out who this is?

Yes I believe you can go to networksolutions.com and do a "whois" query on the IP and it may tell you. Or at least the ISP who is providing the IP address. This may be a dead end because hackers can hide or at least make it hard to track

Thanks -- Someone from ONTARIO CAN. is trying to gain access to my computer. GOOD REASON FOR HAVING A FIREWALL WHEN YOU ARE USING A CABLE OR OTHER HIGH SPEED CONNECTION.

Depending on how your DNS structure is set up, it may be as simple as getting to a “command prompt” on your computer and typing:
ping –a xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where the x’s represent the IP address of the suspect. This will resolve the IP address to a “machine name” by means of DNS. Try it and see what happens. If you need more help, email me. I work in the field of Network Management for the DOD and have resources available that most folks don't. Part of our job is to "bust" IP addresses trying to infiltrate our DOD network. We do it everyday. |
It came back as a block of #s -- The guy is using a dial up modem.
