Great American Concepts 32

Well Gents and Ladies,

I took a big leap and acquired this

http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1998.../United-States

Any thoughts? I have read some info on the manufacturer on this forum so I thought I might find some info here.

Thanks in advance. Hope to be in the water 1st of May.

You'll be lucky to get it on plane with only 260hp. He should have used twins. Oh well...

Ouch.

Come on now. The base engine on a Lavey 32 NuEra, which I think might have a similar hull, only has 375hp.

Pretty sure it does have twins.

A pair of Yanmar 315s would be a good choice for that boat and you could stay with a Bravo style drive.

Ok,

I put it in the water. Performance is pretty much as advertised.

With 5 people, 100 gals of Diesel and basic gear:

She gets on plane at about 2000 rpm and 18kts.

2500 rpm give you 22.5 kts(25.7mph) at 7.3 gph.

Flat out gives 3290 rpm and 35.3(40.3mph) kts. Didn't check the fuel flow at that speed. Handles well.

Seems to be a very light boat.

Personally if I had done this. I would have looked long and hard at the Volvo D6. It can give you up to 435hp.

But really I can't complain. I was looking for a day cruiser that gave me 3 or so nmpg and didn't want the headache and maintenance of twins.

Sure is more fun to drive than the Albin I looked at. New props coming next week to get the rpm up to 3500. We'll see how it goes after that.

Would love to get in touch with someone who knows the construction details of these hulls.
