Switching Rotation in Bravo 1
I purchased a good used prop at a good price, I've read numerous posts that a Bravo's rotation is interchangeable. A lot of the post were from about 4 years ago. Wondering if anyone had any problems with switching their rotation?
I have no idea if I had a right or left prop, already sold my old one. Not sure how Powerquest set up their rotations. Based on what I've read it shouldn't matter. |
The Bravo can be run either way, you just have to change the connection at the shifter. No change is necessary within the drive. They tend to like being run with a RH prop on them, that pulls the gears inwards. Spinning a LH prop puts pressure upwards on the top cap and you need to keep an eye on the bolts if you run some healthy power (thats probably not a good tech description though).
I swap my drive once a year from side to side and change their rotation. |
I'm running stock 385hp, so I should be fine. I called Merc last week and the guy told me that almost all of their engines are shipped left handed rotation, but it's up to the builder if they want to switch it. Just wondering how the boat will handle going the opposite way.

All standard engines are LH rotation.
Most single engine boats run a RH rotation prop. The engine rotation has nothing to with drive/prop rotation on a Bravo. |
