My first "cat"... what did I buy? Little help...
I bought this last night out of a guy's backyard. I wanted the motor which is a 1985 Mercury 75HP.
I don't have a title for the boat. I can't find a HIN. I have no idea what kind of boat it is. I estimate it to be built in the mid-1980s. Yes, it needs some work; and it does have some rot. I bought it with no intentions of putting it in the water. I have not tried to start it yet. I am just curious to find out what the hull is right now. 177" overall length 74" wide at it's widest point 25" wide tunnel that pretty much flattens out at the back with a massive hook in the back of the hull. Any help? http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061636.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061635.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061634.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061633.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061632.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061631.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061630.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061629.jpghttp://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061628.jpghttp://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...t/P4061627.jpg Thanks! |
It's a Carlson, built by Art Carlson in California before he partnered up with Bob Hammond at Glastron......... and it ain't a cat..... Notice the flat bottom at the rear.

I think we have it narrowed down to a 1969 Glastron Carlson Challenger 16'; over on S&F.

Not sure I would consider it a cat or a tunnel hull though? I bet it's a wild ride whatever you want to consider it though. Good Luck. What are you going to do with it after you take off the engine?

I'll be selling the hull.

Definately looks like a Carlson Challenger without the windshields. It is also missing the skeg at the rear. I understand they slide around without it.

If your planning what I think your planning, your going to sink that little red boat of yours.......stern first!!!!

I bought one used in 1976 and had it till 1984, originally I had a 115 merc on her and later I bought a new 1978 1500xs motor, I believe her best day was maybe 65mph, but she had no hydraulic trim.

Looks like a Active Thunder to me.....it could be the lines...:)

They got the scan from me ... before I had a scanner my friend Sue scanned that for me with the color set a little rich ... it kind of stands out. |
