Help - Boat ins. info and boat storage info for S. California area

I'm starting my search for my first boat and a little nervous due to my ignorance of the industry, the fact that I'm going into this solo, and well, I'm also a blonde. :D I know of one reputable company - Dick Simon Marine and plan on checking them out - however, I'm in the S. Bay and they're in Orange County. Anyone know of any reputable companies in the area?

Also - let's talk insurance and storage -- what can I expect on that end?

First boat stats - looking at single engine approx. around 24-27'. Will need to either store it somewhere or find a slip since my house will not accomodate this purchase.

Welcome! New....or used. What is your price range? Dick Simon can help you with the purchase and storage. I've bought two boats there (so far). Also try www.Coastal-Marine.com to find a boat.

And a little plug for a boat I'm selling:

I think I checked out your boat!!! Isn't it the Formula? It's beautiful and I love it but if I remember correctly - it might be a little too - I'll check it out again.

Haven't checked too much into financing, but I'm thinking that I might be in the $30-40 range. I've got to place a call into my credit union soon. So, with this range, obviously used. I've considered going in with someone on a boat - and if that's the case, then I can "step it up."

I'll check out the other link.

Gacrew,
Welcome to The Board. Here are a few tricks to help you buy your first boat.

1. Trust Everyone: Nobody has ever overpriced or embelished speeds, weights, or any other statics to sell a boat. If the seller says its so...then its so!!!

2. Pay the asking price. Nobody likes a whinner!!!

3. Bayliners rule!!! Dont believe the hype.

4. You dont need no stinkin sea trail. And that goes for surveys too ( See rule 1 )

5. Contracts. Ya right. just take the salesmans word for it. And always assume the trailer comes with the boat. There is no need to ask.

6. You shouldnt look at more than 1 boat before buying. Go with your heart.

7. It costs more because its better than any of the other identicle boats that are out there.

8. Dont take anyone with you that knows about boats. They will mess the whole deal up. Your a big boy...Do this on your own.

9. And most important. If anything is wrong with the boat at th time of purchase. Dont worry about getting it in writting that they will fix it later. Just pay for the boat and I am sure they will stand behind there product.

Gacrew, Just kiding. Rule 1- Read this board and post any questions you have about any boat you are thinking of buying or anyone you are thinking of buying it from. This is an independant forum and is a great tool.

Rule 2- Take your time, us salespeople make it sound like there is a shortage of boats in the borld and you better get one before we run out. Take your tie untill you find what you want at the price you want it for.

Rule 3- Get help, Friend, Broker, Whatever

Rule 4- Survey, Survey, Survey!!!

Rule 5- Get everything in writting.

If you have any questions or need any help at all give me a call. I can source out a boat for you and walkyou through it stepo by step. I am here in SoCal but travel all over to look at boats for clients. Ask around on the board if I am worth coming to.
