Garmin Nuvi 500

Anyone use one for navigationg on the water? If so how did you like it?

I didnt think you could load the water maps on the nuvi models??

bigboat28 04-24-2010 01:06 PM

You are correct....Went to their site and looked it up. Not sure what the pros and cons are of this unit over a real marine unit. I am currently looking for one myself. It wouldnt let you download the lakeview maps which are "supposedly" better. I am trying to understand all the differences myself.

Yea, I wouldn't mind getting one to use in the car and boat.

Anyone?

yeah its hard to figure out what is/not supported maps wise, & then the difference in map software. we have a nuvi & i was thinking about buying maps for ours even though we really only use it on loto.

i think the big difference is the marine units of course are waterproof & let u interface w/ different marine spec equipment. Garmin HQ is about 1 mile from my house, but they dont have any type of storefront to go in & mess w/ their products.

We are going to Destin in June, what do you guys think the charts that can be put on it are like? Maybe I should go check it out at west marine or something.
