before you consider getting a cat make sure you can get insurance - a lot of carriers will not insure a cat if the owner does not have prior cat experience. Not sure how the rates will be in Texas, but in Florida my insurance went from about $800 a year with a 29 Fountain Fever with an SC motor to nearly $5,000 a year for a 30 Motion cat...

Insurance quote before even consideration. Especially with zero performance boating under your belt. Its going to be high, if you can even find somone to take you.

I went form a Crownline 225 BR to a 25' Nordic (Rage) closed bow. Very happy with my decision. It gets a little crowed with more than 4 people on board compared to the open bow but it sure is nice to have a place to go if a storm blows up on you. Also there is no comparison in speed. The Crownline hull has way to much drag. Mine had 600 ish hp and a Stern Jack and would just barely break 75.
